1. Derek Simpson will be better than Geo - faster, quicker longer, better d
2. Antwone Woolfolk will be better than Myles Johnson - faster, quicker, more athletic, stronger
3. Cam Spencer will be better than Ron Harper - better form, high release, better defender
I mostly believe #1. I think Simpson is going to be a very very good player...all around good.
Really liked Simpson's game. Certainly could be as good as Geo, but it's just one game against Columbia and we don't really know much about his shooting yet - but he is a bit quicker, so that will help his defense and ability to drive and dish.
Woolfolk will definitely contribute. Saying he'll be better than Myles is way premature - no way he'll be better defensively and while he looks like he might have good post moves, it's Columbia.
Spencer looked good, but he looked good against this level of competition at Loyala-MD and he had a better supporting cast tonight, so let's pump the brakes on him, too. Was very happy with his performance tonight, but the jury will be out on him to some extent until we see him against high major competition, especially with regard to his defensive footspeed and his ability to get good shots against tougher man defenses. Saying he'll be better than Harper is wishful thinking.
Great night, though. Team looked really good, played hard, shared the ball and defended well. Thought we'd beat this team by 15-20, not completely dismantle them. Paul, Cliff, Hyatt, Mag, and Rieber all played pretty well, which is nice. Loved seeing Cliff sink a trey. Foul shooting was horrible. Nice to see all the reserves get some action too. Certainly a good start, especially without Caleb. Great crowd, too.
My only concern from tonight is Paul's shoulder. Obviously, he came back in and played, but he was still favoring it the rest of the game. Hope I'm just overworrying.
