We have the worst bench I've seen since the 1980s.We also have the weakest front line I have seen since BG era. The main problem with this team is it doesn't have a point guard, you simply can't win at a big time level without one.All of these are personnel problems. The coaching staff is solely responsible for that.
Our fanbase is unhinged partly because Pope overhyped this team preseason and partly a hang over from the end of the Cal error. We are facing our 4th straight 10 loss season. It is bad but not the end of the world. UK has had more than a few over the years and we always recovered.
What is more difficult to recover from is bad management. Mitch Barnhart is far and away the biggest problem with UK basketball today. We must move him out much like we did Hagan and prey we replace him with a CM Newton. Good management finds the right personnel to get the job done, we don't have that right now

Like it or not, a huge reason for the bench weakness is the injuries. Whether those 3 guys were starting or on the bench, that is a reduction of half of the expected bench contributors. So unless your first 2-3 guys off the bench are studs, that is going to hurt!

Of Jasper, Jelavic, BG, Noah and DiaboUte, none are good enough to be playing meaningful minutes for UK. Only Oweh and Denzel are good enough to be starters on a final four UK team and they need three players better than them with them. I love Moreno and definitely think he's that guy next year and could be an absolute star if he stays for year 3.

People will see how good these guys are when they play for their next coach.

Yeah man, he has no confidence. I don't care if he misses shots. I care that he passes up so many open looks. He doesn't even look to shoot

He was going offense/defense late with MM and BG. Let that sink in. Our genius head basketball coach put BG in for DEFENSE. Serious. Huge part of defense is rebounding. I swear, can't make this stuff up. Dumbest smart guy coach ever.

We need to go to a seven man rotation barring injuries and foul trouble . With Mo and Noah being 6 and seven . If Moreno had been in against Auburn in last 14 seconds good chance we would have won. This is not a church league . If Williams can come back c how that goes . But Jasper for some reason gets stripped of the ball and leaves his man on defense . BG just should beplaying mid mAmir .

How dude? Every player on the bench has a negative +/-. He has 5 kids that don't. He would have had 8. Nonsense

That's not factual. That's a guess. Don't look at the +/- of the INDIVIDUAL. Look at the +/- of the LINEUP. You want to limit your bench? Figure out how to play one or two bench pieces with your starters. Any coach worth a crap knows that. How many teams that we play, minus foul trouble, have you seen EVER have four subs in the game at once? For a decent stretch of time? It absolutely doesn't happen. Yet Pope insists on doing it knowing his bench is hot garbage.

It's one thing if the folks on here can't grasp it. I get it. This is my life. I pour over these numbers all season long. Lineup construction is literally the thing that can make or break us in close games. We not only have preferred lineups, but we lineups that we absolutely will not play together unless fouls force us into it. It's like Pope is so danged hard headed he just refuses to relent to that fact. 8-0 or 9-2 run be damned, he's putting those guys on the floor together. Makes no sense.

Seems like Jelly never plays enough minutes in a row to get in a grove , he makes LOTS of positive plays , he rarely dogs it , if ever . Wish MP would give him more minutes and forget BG FOREVER ! ManitouDan

What this tells us is that we need to stagger our substitutions and the rest periods for the starters. Only put one bench player in at a time, not multiple at the same time.

I don’t know why Pope doesn’t get this. It’s like he’s trying to substitute the way Pitino did in 96, ignoring the fact that this team does not have nearly enough depth to play that way.
