let's hope there are 17M+ yous in those lines today.

I, for one, would be pretty surprised if the lion's share were back on their feet 3 weeks from now.

Yah its not over. Another 3 weeks it should well into the 20 million range.

A good chunk of economists are not expecting a quick rebound because its going to take a year or more to find all those folks jobs. Hiring 20 million+ people just takes time.

Another slowing factor is that most of the folks on the lower end of the scale will be making more money on unemployment until July 31 and probably won't search for jobs until then. And its possible those benefits get extended.

Words going out to each state for leaders to contact businesses to start contacted employees.

Never said they would be.....I just don't think that filing for unemployment was that life altering. Yes...I'm glad that I likely won't have to do so, but since we've made it out of every other economic depression, I like our chances of getting out of this one.

What is most likely?

Frost wins 10 before we are over the economic impact of the pandemic?

Hoiberg wins a NCAA tourney game before we are over the economic impact of the pandemic?

Was from a wh briefing.
This is the plan, then to leave logistics, timing etc to each state.

Yah ok that's what I thought you were referencing.

A good many of those folks were laid off from companies that no longer exist now. But yah if the bigger companies will start doing that, great!

I find myself in the mainstream opinion I guess. Later this year should be a good rebound.

The market is altogether something else. Its gained over the euphoria from trillions in money printing even though the unemployment has skyrocketed.

It could be 30K next week for all we know. It could be 10K.

Some don't exist, and theres further plans to properly help some of them.
That also may be left to states, with fed helps.

Buffett cashed out some this week...makes me think he expects a drop. I don’t see how the current rally can be sustained given the unemployment numbers and what are sure to be massive misses on earnings across the vast majority of industries coming up.

Don't think the markets aren't privy to infos you and I aren't privy to.
Plans are in motion.

My guess is, Buffet wants liquidity to see who's essential, or first to be fired up, and then of course, his magic understanding in how those fit immediarely going forwards.

I expect a drop too but since I sold at the peak I'm not hurt if it keeps going.

There's a lot of big money on the sidelines.

Economists have long said lots of Americans were going to lose their jobs through automation and efficiency gains. Many of these people were going to lose jobs anyway.

https://futurism.com/new-chart-proves-automation-serious-threat
Their lives are inconsequential so let's sacrifice those people for the greater good. That's ridiculous and akin to saying that most of the people dying of cv19 had one foot in the grave anyway, so maybe we should sacrifice them.

It's no real secret. President wants the economy open May 1 and will do so unless the data says otherwise.

Plus there's trillions floating around from the printing and trillions more yet to hit folks bank account for stimulus and forgivable "loans". And at least two more stimulus bills in the horizon.

Yes yes, you just sit and watch it happen?
Are you going to stand at the doors with a gun?
Economies shift, horses to cars. Paper to computer.
Hell, the pony express to the Iphone.

Things work themselves out, and in great changes, usually start with a flourish.
As to the virus, our flourih thus far has been hunkering down, but it'll soon get back to normal, absorbed into everyday life.

I guess I missed the sarcasm/context. I was reading through these posts pretty quickly trying to catch up and saw your post which seemed pretty callous. My apologies.

I just want to remind everyone, flattening the curve saves only those we couldn't get proper cares to, if the med system became overwhelmed.
It never promised saving more than that, that a longer fattened curve would have the same volume of mortalities, only spread out, and possibly less through learned cares over time, treatments, and reduces times towards a vaccine.
So, as many projected to die will die, minus the things I listed above, unless people choose to opt out and continue to stay in their homes.

Having a space in a hospital to care for you if you become ill is the philosophical equivalent of having a gun in case of a mugging.

Nothing is guaranteed, but at least you have a chance, so it goes.

Regarding Fauci, is your position that because America trusts him he should be removed? Your baseless theory that he is a hero of the left is laughable.

https://today.yougov.com/topics/pol.../dr-fauci-impresses-republicans-and-democrats

Perhaps most importantly, the positive numbers were nearly identical among Americans across the political spectrum. Among those who had seen or heard news of Fauci, his “excellent” or “good” rating was only a percentage point higher among Democrats (85%) than among Republicans (84%). Just 15 percent of Democrats and 16 percent of Republicans rated Fauci negatively. Fauci’s rating was slightly lower among Independents – 74 percent positive, 26 percent negative.

As far as your tear it down mantra of the WHO...good luck with that.
No I do not think Fauci should be removed. I do think he should be refrained from stating any timelines, that is policy. Fauci has been wrong a lot. I hope he is competent as he has a lot of influence in this. The bigger issue is that democrats use him as a political pawn, not at news conference = Trump hates him. Fauci says we should shut everything down = anyone who does not agree is a murderer

Everything on the liberal side is political - everything including a pandemic - what are they doing now helping Americans? No creating another investigation to uncover any mis-step by Trump so they can put a man in the White house who on many days cant remember his own name.

Sorry I do not believe Liberals somehow have my best interests at heart

Except that now people are suffering as all elective and even some non-elective surgeries were cancelled - some hospitals around the country are laying off people right now due to this

But we've learned a few things, keep people off vents as long as possible for one.

This.
We have a press who's laid off this story, to their credit, even though reports haven't been proper on the virus imo.
We simply need to get back to normal. We need to obviously include this in our overall planned capabilities.

Ventilator is a treatment method. Docs don't have to use it. The thinking now is still folks will go to the hospital when they get bad. Not sit at home. So the space is still relevant.

To be fair. Folks making arguments where every other word is "liberal" this and "liberal" that shows that things on the "non-liberal" side is also political.

hardly neutral statements.

Trump has said we'll follow the data. If you prefer the policy to not shift because we can't change our initial expectations, then this will probably be longer than is necessary.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/sc...ce-9-11-style-commission-to-probe-coronavirus
Interesting with Feinsteins connections to china.
We have problems to fix, how much help is this?

This just shows to me, things are about to change, the economy is close to firing up.

How is a bipartisan commission intended to review our overall response at local, state, federal and private levels, to improve our response to future pandemics a bad thing?

The commission, according to the Democratic lawmakers, would be composed of 10 members, with “the same partisan balance as the 9/11 commissioners,” and would provide “a full accounting to the President, Congress and the American people” related to the coronavirus outbreak, and how federal, state, local governments and the private sector responded to the crisis.

The commission, though, is not expected to be established until February 2021 “hopefully after the pandemic has been overcome and after the presidential election,” they said.

I personally don't care if there's a commission or not. If you are going to do it, that timeline is probably appropriate so it doesn't become a political piece of the election. For something of this scale there probably should be since it seems all sides are upset with the response for various reasons.

The House GOP is requesting a probe/commission/whatever into modeling so that we might better respond in the future without shooting our foot off if it isn't necessary. That could easily be rolled up into this.

Its the saddest part imo of this identity politics thing. You are forced to take a side. When part of the population for whatever reason lurches so far from the norm in a short period of time( Liberals) then people who do not agree with them line up in complete opposite manner. It was the Liberals who claim to be part of the resistance, Many always claim to want a revolution and supported moving the country to socialism. Ten years ago would we have seen this? Its extreme and sudden and has forced people into either for it or against it. That seems now unfortunately to be true of most things even though I truly believe most people are right down the middle
