Perspective is very amusing. This guy was an idiot to some, until he wasn't. And to others he was a truth teller and now he is an idiot.
It is odd to me how many people just want to be right in what they believe or say. How about we just want this to impact as little as possible and throw egos out the door?
And this isn't directed to you but to the others that are extreme.
Good numbers don't. Garbage in, garbage out though. IMO this will be a case study that modeling is not science and only conjecture.
That’s great. I really do think treatment breakthroughs are what could, potentially, change things for us and keep us from having death tolls like Italy.
Is this a credible success story? As of March 11, 2020, New York had 215 positive cases and Washington had 337. As of yesterday, New York had 30,811 and Washington 2,580. That sounds like a success story in Washington to me.

Again, this is really only a crisis in NYC - a city of 9 million packed in a small island, with multiple major airports serving millions of tourists, and where everyone takes public transportation. Had the mayor shut things down earlier, instead of encouraging everyone to go out, this would have been mitigated. As it is, we should probably shut down travel out of New York until this is contained, and basically treat it like China/Italy. Over half of all cases in the US are in NY.
Outside of New York, as long as most people continue to adhere to social distancing, there is no evidence that this won't be manageable. If you want to blame someone, blame this idiot:
IF we hadn't taken the measures we've taken, even you would think the world was ending. This isn't over. I'm a staunch fiscal and social conservative but it was extremely important to wake people up to this threat. As it is even some small rural towns are doing battle with this virus. I'm a little bit afraid of what the next 2 weeks will hold for Omaha. I HOPE they shut down the bars and restaurants in time. IMO, the largest single culprit in the spread of this virus other than public gatherings has been mass transit and airlines.
Biden is already showing lots of signs of senile dementia. I can't imagine what he'll be like in a couple of years. There's a reason everybody in Washington has known him as "Crazy Joe" for the past decade. That isn't a name that Trump just picked out of the air.
IF you get enough population immunity so that you don't have 10 vulnerable people sitting around a carrier, you would probably be fine. I would be reluctant to attend for instance a basketball game, but an outdoor event I would probably do as long as it wasn't as packed as Memorial Stadium. That said, by then I would bet that there will be a surplus of masks and people will wear them to events and life will resume.
I was talking to my mom last night and she works with some of the big bosses at UNMC. Sounds like she expects med center to go down to even more minimal manning within a week (to include herself) and the state to take further steps to lock things down because the med center is usually at the forefront of that. I'm not exactly sure what Nebraska has locked down now.
Just mainly restaurants and bars at this point. Most people are scared shitless so they're doing the right thing I think. I won't be surprised if Omaha goes shelter in place this next week but most people are already doing that to large degree. It helps immensely that people are aware and mostly taking heed.
I totally agree with you, but the fear-mongering by certain individuals on this board with certain agendas was getting exhausting and not doing any of us any good.
I was one of those individuals 3 weeks ago. We can not let our guard down. We have to stay on people to keep them practicing techniques to keep them safe. That said, there are a couple of posters who definitely have a political agenda. Personally I'm really pissed that the Democrats tied a bunch of pollution and union interest mandates to the aid package. Scumbags.
I think mwulf made the point that we almost need to treat each state as their own country. The only problem with that is that we can't close the borders between the states. I would say this is a regional deal even within states. My home state has a HUGE problem with community spread in a small town and then the largest town. The rest of the state so far is doing okay so far. It's a town by town deal really now that we've pretty much shut down airlines.
My mom is about the biggest Trumpster there is. Trumpette maybe for women? Her main gripe is that the press is out to get Trump in these task force press conferences and so forth but after having a front line seat there at Nebraska Med she's never been on the whole "this is the flu" or "we can more or less if ignore this" or "it only kills old people so send the youngins back to work" train.
I listened to her rail quite a bit last night if people aren't paying attention that in the US at least a significant number of hospitlazations are folks in the prime of their life like me or even younger folks like those spring breakers. She was saying if was up to her she would have taken those idiots of the beach and quarantined them in a cage somewhere in Florida and let them figure out how living for themselves works out instead of jumping on planes and spreading around the country.

I think his dementia videos on the China virus are hilarious...but it really makes me wonder who's rubber stamping the release of those things? Who on his team is sitting there thinking they are helping his cause? This is America and if people really want to vote for somebody who thinks Super Tuesday primaries are held on Thursdays, doesn't know what state he's in, thinks he's running for the Senate, and gets lost two sentences into a PSA he had weeks to prepare for....alllllrighty then. I will say this though, if he wins straight up, I'll tip my hand to him (Thanks Tyson) and honor the result. I won't get it, but I'll accept it and consider him my President and root for him, and us. I'm the first person to admit Trump's mouth outruns his brain a lot of times, but I've never listened to him and thought he was losing it either. Joe has lost it and I'm curious if it will get measurably worse by November.
Yeah I live in Woodland Hills which is 10 miles from downtown LA. Rumors of an Italy style shutdown here have been swirling for a few days. I'm lucky because I am getting paid through this and can stay at home. I worry that there are thousands here that don't have that luxury and it could get violent. That being said yes I fully support locking this thing down for a bit. That doesn't mean that North Platte should also be locked down. Unfortunately this isn't going to be a one size fits all solution. Treat it like a series of fires that need to be doused. Right now New York is on fire so send the most resources there and act accordingly when other hot spots inevitably flare up.

Agree. This isn't really a red blue thing but Trump has a situation now economically where all of his most valuable economic pieces are in fire. He got up and gave that speech the other day about parts of this country were doing well and he listed Nebraska and Idaho.
Begging your pardon sir but I'd probably have used that moment to inject some light hearted comdy into the situation. Tell a story about how Kudlow came into the Oval Office and said "all our manufacturing and technology and transportation and tourism sectors are shut down....but we'll be ok by God because we have the Iowa State Fair."

I see individuals on this board constantly calling Covid-19 a hoax, comparing this to the flu or even the common cold and telling anyone that will listen to ignore social distancing and go about your lives, like nothing is happening. Is that doing anyone any good?
Last time I checked, colds werent sending 10% of the people who got them to the hospital, which most are intubated for two to three weeks, where 2% of them then die, and its weeks ot more for the lungs to recover.

Regardless, California has only had 68 deaths, which is pretty impressive to me - considering the population of California is almost as much as the entire country of Spain. Spain has had over 4,000 deaths so far.
It is becoming very apparent how much China lied about the infection and how responsible they are for all this misery.

- They are reporting 81,000 affect - US is now reporting 75,000 affected - they show 56 cases/million US shows 227/million - Their population is much more densely packed - the virus because of a coverup spread unchecked for a longer time. They do have the benefit of arresting people and beating them up but still I think their infected rate would be higher than the US - even if equal that would mean 1, 625,000 infected
- They are reporting 2 deaths per million of pop - The US is at 3 and will climb - This number is a joke at the very least they are at a level of Italy ( I believe they are much higher) but at Italy numbers they would have over 200,000 dead

Yep. If you have ever watched someone close to you suffer from that kind of deterioration, you're burying your head in the sand if you're denying it.
And that's not coming from a "political" standpoint. I was (and still am) holding out hope for an alternative to voting for Trump. But it won't be Biden, unless his VP pick is 100% capable of running the country effectively as a non-elected president.
