He's been a diabetic for some years now, and we've controlled it pretty well - this jump came out of nowhere, really. To add to it, he had had a heart attack in 2004;, which means his risk of a "silent" heart attack is very high. They are doing all the necessary tests to make sure his heart is still ok.

Prayers and good thoughts are appreciated.
Just prayed for your Hubby and your family. God's good.

Hate to hear of this. Wishing a speedy recovery to him. I am Type 1 as well and have gone DKA 6 times over the last 10 years. Had an A1C of 8.1 back in January when I went DKA last. I once had an ER doctor tell me that he had never seen anyone alive with a blood sugar as high as mine was (above 1300, my insulin pump failed and I had no back up at the time). Its a God awful disease that greatly reduces the quality of life if you love to eat (like myself). I am lucky as I am very slim whereas most diabetics are not and it makes things much harder. Ill send a few up to the big guy even though he and I dont speak much these days. Hope the Cats make his hospital stay a bit easier tonight. Ive had it so long its an afterthought but I hate to see others suffer with it, breaks my heart to see a young child with it.

How I love my BBN family! You all don't know how much it means to us to have your thoughts and prayers.

As of this evening - all heart function blood tests have come back normal. He had an echo and ekg done today, which will be read by the cardiac consult and discussed tomorrow morning.

His blood sugars are still problematical; when I came home to see to my boys this afternoon, they had dropped to 295. Unfortunately, this evening, they tested 342, and 30 minutes later had climbed to 378. They are giving him insulin on a sliding scale right now to combat it. I am afraid this means he may have to stay longer - but he is in the best place he can be right now, even if I can't be with him. He know he has my heart and love always.

The nurses and other personnel have already decided to congregate in his room at game time - to take care of him, of course
The whole staff on shift tonight are UK fans!

Thank you all again - much love to you all.

UPDATE

All the cardiac tests (blood tests, ekgs, echos, etc) have come back normal! They are going to do another echo today just for added assurance, but everything looks good with the heart. They tested for pancreatitis, which was negative, thank goodness. Unfortunately, they are having difficulty getting his blood sugar stabilized. It's still in the mid-upper 300s, so I am thinking at least one more night at the hospital. We don't know for sure, just yet, what they will decide. We miss him terribly, at home, but are thankful he is getting great care. If you would, continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!!

Just got the call they are keeping him at least one more night - want to get the blood sugar levels down to under 250 before releasing him. New meds have been started as well.

Feeling quite selfish right now - can't be with him at this moment as I have our boys and my granddaughter to see to, today. Hoping my next door neighbor can come over soon to take over a bit so I can go sit with my honey.

Again, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

My best and most heartfelt birthday wish is that everything comes out well in the end, and you all can go home from the hospital happy. I hate hospitals. Been in them too damn much. Both of ya' are in my thoughts and prayers, renewed and re-energized so that all gets better.

I told you in my last related post that it might take as long as a week or two for him to get normal readings.
He needs to use a chart which he might come home with to write his daily food intake and several blood sugar readings for the doctor to see and adjust medication (Insulin or oral or both)
Believe me, if he follows the instructions, he will be just fine.
Good luck to you both.

Glad to hear he's home Bko. No snacks for the game tonight.

Sorry to hear about the job YouKay. That's tough. Even tho' the economy isn't booming, at least it's a little bit better. Hope you're in a field where there's ample opportunity where you live.

Home is where the Heart is! Take good care of your man, and I know you will. Nothing more comfortable than recuperating at home. Hope he stabilizes fast and gets all readings under control. Still praying for the two of you!
