I am not seeing it. We lose our entire starting line up except for maybe Hagans. Washington and Travis experience will be irreplaceable. One or more players are rumored to be transferring and none of the incoming players will be impact guys. We will make the tournament but I doubt we go very far.

Maxey better than Herro and Hagans? You can't possibly say that with 100% confidence. Wasn't Hagans ranked ahead of Maxey in multiple publications?

Hate to break this news to the board: Maxey will go through Freshman growing pains like almost every other freshman has. The expectations that the fan base are putting on this kid are ridiculous.

UK will be better next season if Herro comes back. That's really the only way I see it possible. Otherwise, we'll lack a go to scorer and difference maker.

Do people realize we're losing PJ. PJ was a top 5 player in the country last season. 6'8, Clutch, go-to, 3-level scorer, and terrific defender. We won't have anything close to that next year.

As much as I like EJ....he's just not PJ.

Sure they COULD be better. If one of Johnson/Herro/Washington come back and nobody else does anything stupid. But that’s highly unlikely.

I think you can remove the word “highly”. Assuming their decisions are independent of each other (reasonable assumption), and assuming PJ has a 5% chance to return, KJ has a 20% chance to return, and Herro has a 30% chance to return, then there is a 46.8% chance at least one of them returns.

Cal said all year "We need Nick Richards to win a title"

Cal obviously sees the talent. He kept starting him last year when he shouldn't...he kept playing him even when he struggled this year. Cal knows he can break through.

I think sometimes that young guys aren't mentally ready...Cal a lot of times goes for the mentally tough/confident players. Miller didn't break through until the end of his Junior year....Poythress did late in his sophomore year...I think being an upperclassman will get him right.

He's around 7'foot....long arms....athletic....and has a decent shot. He has all the pieces...he's in his 3rd year....I'm high on Junior Nick Richards.

Our offense will look completely different next year (not in a good or bad way just different). This year we ran almost all of our sets with 2 post players. Next year we will surely spread out and attack with whitney, brooks, and hagans and have shooters on the outside including sestina and ej getting a lot of shots from 15 ft on the baseline.

Answer depends on two key questions

Do we get Herro back? Keldon and PJ are definitely gone and everyone else I would think is certainly staying like it or not

Do we land mcdaniels or hurt or is the class set?Sestina is a nice get

If either answer is yes we should be preseason number 1

2010 was the year....but ended in the elite 8

2011 was a roster with less hype and returning players...ended better

For example, if we had Herro/Johnson replacing Maxey/Whitney instead of the other way around, some of our fans would instantly say that the Herro/KJ replacement is > than the Maxey/Whitney loss.


A narrative of positive evolutionary basketball progress dominates the outlook of many on this board. They can't bring themselves to believe the "next step" up in the ascension may not happen.

I actually don't think next year's team will be more talented. We may go farther in the tourney, due to the overall scope of college basketball potentially taking a step backward.

The always optimistic "sunshine pumpers" or the always negative "Legion of Doom" wannabes.

Most of us are somewhere in between.

I try to stay cautiously optimistic. I'm not going to say we go 40-0 and I won't be bemoaning our impending NIT appearance in June.

I expect we will be contenders next year, because we usually are.

That and negativity get us nowhere. I can't imagine how miserable it must be as a fan to go through an entire offseason thinking the season is going to be awful.
