Could McNulty quit after this year?

Is it possible McNulty quits and gives up on the rest of his 3 year contrsct?

If Ash, a HC with no prior offensive coaching experience, is forcing McNulty to start Sitkowski every week and play him all game long, does McNulty man up and just leave?

Everyone keeps saying how great of a coach he is, he should be interim HC, he should be kept by Schiano.

But he is letting terrible HC Ash force a QB onto him every week?
Seems like it could be a ripe opportunity for someone to quit.

Some speculation out there is that McNulty was pushed on Ash.

If so, I don’t think it’s fair to attack McNulty’s performance yet if his hands have been tied.

Lets start with this.... How do we know that Sitkowski isn't the guy that McNulty wants out there? Because he definitely sounded like he was on the Sitkowski train in the summer.

The liine sucks and wide receivers run bad improper routes.just bad coaching with a true freshman Qb. McNulty is still the best coach on staff.

1. "Best coach on staff" is a relative term. Regardless of his personal ability, his competition for that title isn't exactly world beaters.

2. "Just bad coaching" - by McNulty or Ash? If it is Ash that is forcing Sit to play, and the best coach on staff disagrees, it would seem to make sense that McNulty would consider leaving.
Or, McNulty, the best coach on staff, agrees with starting Sit.

That's my question to everyone placing all the blame solely on Ash.....

Obviously the buck stops with the HC, but if McNulty is so great, how is he not involved in the decision?

Did McNulty bang your wife or something?

Nope. Just trying to understand the love affair with a coach who has arguably the worst offense in the nation - an offense that is now statically worse than 2016 (when the boogeyman DM tried to install the witchcraft spread) and is only going to get worse in November.

People are blaming Ash for Sit starting and playing and acting like McNulty has nothing to do with it.

Either:
1. He is fully on board with Sit starting and playing all year. As the OC, I would think McNulty has even more say than Ash since Ash is historically a defensive coach.
Or
2. He is being completely disrespected by Ash and, as a great coach, would try to leave after this year for a better situation.

Its not that complicated actually.

No matter how you look at it Ash gets the blame.
But each assistant from the OC & DC on down
deserve a fair share of the blame as well.

Rutgers season ( so far) is a group disaster and every assistant on the staff deserves to be blamed , along with the HC.

I dont.
Thats my point - alot of people are blaming Ash for Sit playing while also saying McNulty is a great coach and should be interim coach. Doesn't make sense.

I'm guessing nobody here has the first clue about how the decision as to who to start which QB (or any other players) is being arrived at. For all we know, it might not even be arrived at the exact same way every week.

Unless somebody here was a fly on the wall in the coach's room where the discussion(s) took place, it would be pure speculation as to how the various coaches involved might have weighed in on the decision. And I'm not really sure what the value is in trying to guess.

About the only thing I feel fairly certain of is that the last thing on any of the coach's minds, when they're discussing that decision, is how the fans feel about it. Thank goodness.

I'm not sure I see a love affair. Guy does have some credit in the bank on the banks and also has NFL experience. Two things Ash doesn't have. He'd be a natural choice to take over in an interim role because of that. Don't really see him getting much love as a permanent HC candidate, though.

At this point, I think everyone's incredible sick of the Ash show. Year 1, OC gets the blame because no one wanted to believe it was Ash that sucked so bad. Plus guy was too green and should never have been hired as OC. Easy scapegoat. Year 2, offense made some small steps forward and lack of further progress seemed to be a player development problem that would ease over time.

Year 3 brings a huge step back on both sides of the ball. Offense stinks, defense stinks, players appear to have quit on the team and we're the worst P5 team in the country, one of the worst FBS teams, period. That's all on Ash, not the OC he hired this year to replace an OC that left for personal reasons.

Honeymoon period is over for Ash; he gets full blame now.

ash is going to get sitkowski killed in the next 5 games

@RUgrad75 aka Marie from Freehold, asked Ash about that 2 weeks ago at the radio show:
Marie From Freehold returned for a second straight week to ask Ash a question. After an initial question about pass protection — “How are you going to keep (Artur Sitkowski) alive this season?” was the exact wording —

It's a team. The entire team is malfunctioning right now. Ash is the guy who gets paid to be responsible for that not happening and he's not getting it done.

But that doesn't absolve McNulty from at least sharing responsibility for the offense being as bad as it is. We can't possibly know the details, but it seems pretty clear that Ash isn't calling the plays or drawing up the offensive scheme. Nor can Ash spend all his time looking over the offensive position coach's shoulders to be sure they're teaching the correct technique.

I wouldn't use a guy who is clearly failing at his job to replace another guy who is failing at his job. What would be the point?

I've always wondered why an NFL assistant would return to college. Just having to deal with recruiting kids, parents, school work grades, etc.... vs. only focusing on NFL draft and schemes seems like alot of unecessary headache to me.

There’s a lot less pressure and year round commitment in college. It’s the same reason some people are willing to make less money as they get older if it means more free time to spend with family, friends, etc.

Or, maybe he wanted to make one last run at being a HC and realized that staying in the pros would never get him there.

I seriously worry for his safety....his release has to be faster from here on and the offensive line has to get in front of him and become a team

Can you ask Coach Ash if he would consider the Gary Andersen/Oregon State approach at the end of this season?

QB is always the head honcho's decision. McAdoo did what ownership wanted by sitting Eli and was made the scapegoat by same when the public cried foul. So now ownership, doing what the customers want, backs Eli, hires GM and HC puppets and purposely empties the cupboard so there isn't anyone else with a pulse to vie for the job so as not to demote a washed up legend. But I digress....

In this case, McNulty also says and does what his boss requires. Ash is sandbagging this year, and surely will grovel to Hobbs that the 1-11 season is due to having a frosh QB, trying to shift focus from not developing anyone else in the last three years.

With the money owed to Ash, Ash won't be groveling to anybody. Also, no matter what happens w/Ash in terms of being fired, Ash will be able to find lucrative work elsewhere, albeit most likely as a coordinator for awhile.

Hobbs isn't some idiot who needs either fans or Ash to tell him what the reality of the situation is. He might ask Ash his take on things, and he'll be mindful of fan discontent. But Hobbs will almost certainly make what he considers the best business decision for the school (which coincidentally will also likely be the best decision for himself). If Hobbs is going to give weight to anybody else's opinions but his own, it will be to take the pulse of the RU admin.

There's also a good chance that Hobbs and the admin have a longer term plan and they may not deviate a whole lot from that plan because we're having the football season from hell.

Hobbs will also weigh the opinions of the major boosters.

Is it, if they are putting up millions of dollars?
Yes. Even more so.

Because what happens when they don't all share the same opinion about what to do? You'd make some happy, and piss off others who will feel slighted because instead of just making decisions in the best interests of the school, you will have perceived, by some at least, as having favored some people's opinions over others.

IMO, it's better to avoid creating an environment where the perception of such favoritism can exist.

I think it would be important to avoid having donors getting the sense that they have much of a say in critical decisions such as what coach to hire, when to fire the existing coach, etc. I would turn away any donation where it came with the expectation that the donation was dependent upon a very specific personnel decision.

I think it's smarter to convey the sense that the funds being donated will be spent helping the university and the student-athletes, both now and for the future. In other words, keep the donations tied to generalized concepts. Give donors the sense that the school will act in the best interests of the student athletes (or just the students, for purely academic donations).

And despite what happens with Ash or any other coach, I think RU will try to do what it thinks is best for all the student-athletes. I would hope, and think, that most big-money donors understand that a university or athletic department can't be run like a reality TV show where decisions are made based on overly dramatized, overly emotional feelings. In other words, they understand that "We hate Ash" is a really bad foundation for a wise business decision in the athletic department.

Bump. I raised this question a month ago.

More and more people are saying it is Ash over ruling McNulty on the decision to start and play Sit every week.

I would assume Ash will force Sit to start in 2019 - regardless of what McN thinks.

Could McN save himself from being blamed for another worst in the country offense in 2019?

Highly unlikely.

He moved his family here and bought a house.
