Grady has already taken his “virus season.”

This is his 5th full season playing college basketball (he’s friggin 24-years-old), the only reason he was eligible this season is because he got the Covid bonus year. Which makes him about the single most experienced player in the history of college basketball.

So, NO, he can’t. Nobody’s ever been more out of eligibility than Grady after the season.

I try think you can get 6 seasons with the COVID bonus.

You can actually get 7 (see Jalen Coleman-Lands at Kansas). However Grady already played 4 years at Davidson, but last year was a redshirt year for him, as it was for everyone. You can get 6 if you had a transfer or medical redshirt plus the Covid redshirt. Mintz had a medical redshirt year at Creighton. 7 years if you had medical and transfer and Covid, as was the case with Coleman-Lands. Dontaie Allen will have 3 more years of eligibility after this season as he had a medical redshirt and a Covid redshirt.

So he’s eligible another year?

You’re not following what people are saying. No, he’s not.

Those special cases where guys were in school for six years are because they had to sit out redshirt seasons due to medical injury and (now obsolete) transfer rules. They were not allowed to actually play that many seasons.

The rule was that you only get four seasons of playing eligibility. And, prior to this season, nobody had ever played more than four full seasons. A special exception was granted due to Covid, allowing a 5th year of playing eligibility for the first time ever.

But Grady’s already used that 5th Covid bonus year. He’s done.

Good. Glad he’s coming back.

Everyone that played last year had a redshirt year. Including Grady. Like every other player, he was able to play last year without it counting against his eligibility.

I love Grady and would take him, but there is a log jam next year at his position - Wallace, Fredricks, livingston (and it better be) Sharpe.

I was watching a college football game this year and the announcers were bragging about a player making the most starts in program history. You should throw away records like that with this group of players that got to play more than four years. Of course some of these guys are going to have more starts than the old four year guys..

Interesting to ponder how the NCAA will handle the career record stats for players. Take Grady for example. He's in his extra hear and passing guys on the all time scoring list, but those he's passing played one less season.

Do these records just get an asterisk?
