Could changing the flag be as simple as a voice vote?

Can the Speaker of the House/President of the Senate (Lt. Gov.) call for a simple voice vote? Something along the lines of "All if favor of changing the state flag from its present form to the Stennis flag signify by saying "AYE" All opposed "NAY"? Then bang the gavel and say "The Ayes have it" and then adjorn the session and go home.

This way no votes are recorded and they can all go home and say they did their best and we get a new flag.

This is a back door way to do it I think. Not real sure if it's possible. Just asking.

I don't care how they change it. Just come up with something better than the

Stennis flag. It looks like the winner of a 3rd grade art contest. Surely we've got someone somewhere with a little more creativity.

I actually like that idea alot. Remove flag and doing a contest makes perfect

sense to me. I see no reason why we can't remove it without having an in place replacement on stand by. I just personally see the Stennis flag as a big star with a bunch of little stars around it. The star concept immediately makes me think of Texas rather than Mississippi. But that's just my personal opinion. Won't lose sleep on it if that's what they decide on.

A voice vote would work but you’d have to make sure everybody is in agreement.

I'm sure some sort of pre vote conferences would have to take place, maybe encourage the NAY voters to speak softly when voting.

When Ross Barnett was Governor my dad was a representative in the state legislature. I accompanied my Dad to several legislative sessions and witnessed, as a young lad, the workings of our state House. Many a time a voice vote was held and I would be almost certain the "AYES" didn't carry the vote but the speaker of the House banged the gavel and said "The AYES have it" and moved on. I asked my Dad about that and he said "It was all worked out before the vote."

The pine belt pimp would demand a recorded vote.

Could the House Speaker/Senate President deny said request and adjourn the session? I'm asking because I'm not real familiar with the schematics of how some of this works.
