I don't have the answer. But he is kind of a liability offensively right now. Not defensively.

On a team with no offense, how can he be a liability? The way he's playing, he fits right in. At the next CC meeting, can somebody ask Pike or any of the coaches what has happened to Sanders?

He isnt helping us on defensive end.

You add his defense and his inability to make an outside shot and you have an ineffective player for this team

He is the only guy we have right now who can get to the basket and get off a shot. But when they close him off, he's done. His mid-range jumper is pretty bad.

He isn't doing anything well right now. Even his D is reverting backwards.

He isn't a point guard. We need one desperately.

He went from a 33% 3-point shooter last year to a 13% 3-point shooter this year. It is mindboggling. He needs to find his shot, as teams are really slacking off him on D.

He needs to play more rather than less. We need points and while he is careless with the ball at times, I would rather have him either taking it to the rim or putting up a three than almost anyone else on the team.

Pikiell really cut his minutes in the 1st half because of D. In the 2nd half he had to play when Pikiell buried Nigel.

He needs to develop a floater, he's too small to keep getting to the rim and throwing up a wild shot. Until he learns to rely on a floater he will struggle to score

Sanders rarely shoots mid-range jumpers and needs to. He should avoid three's until he shows the ability to make mid-range shots.

The problem with Corey's offensive game is simple

1.) he is struggling with his three (my goodness is his shooting mechanics soooooo off from last year )

2.). He takes the ball EVERY time All the way to the rim. Need to develop a pull up game

Defenders know this and play him accordingly

Who would your starting five be against a regular opponent?

Sanders, Williams, Eugene, Freeman,Gettys.

FIrst one off the bench Johnson, than Sa.

Thiam is not ready yet. Sanders and Williams do not not have established chemistry, but it is better than Sanders and Johnson, who both look to do the same thing in a sense.

Well see. Coach knows. He just has serious offensive limitations right now.

For most of the kids, this offense is BRAND NEW. Having to work for your own shots off of picks?Brand new. No dribbling?Brand new.

It will take time. The team will struggle. And like most said, there will be no reversion to the mean.

I do not see Sanders shot coming together this year. The lack of confidence is on another planet.

On another note, I sat next to PSU guards dad. On one of the foul shots at the 17 mark in the second half for PSU, he said the RAC got louder than any building he has been in this year.

That is a plus. I will take it as a win.

He's going to have to play himself out of it. Without much of a backup plan on a team that is allergic to offense and creation off the Dribble the best iso player and tightest handle on the team needs to have the ball in his hands and work out of this funk.

Cory...at this very moment is likely still injured
I have NO doubt his ankle isnt fully healed yet
I was surprised he did as well as he did

I am MORE surprised Nigel, Freeman, Diallo, Omorunyi, Doorson and Thiam didnt "step up"
they actually took a step backward,,,en masse

They have to shake off the crappy game and get ready for B10 game 2......

I think He is trying to drive too much because his shot is not falling right now. But, in doing that he is going against bigs near the rim. I think he needs to drive, but, if he does not have a clear path he should pullup for short jumpers off the glass....maybe using his step back jumper move.

Well, he certainly isn't a shooting guard.

He is a scoring combo guard and Still the best passer on the team....just struggling right now in a few areas trying to get settled in his new role. Last year he controlled the ball all the time. He is still learning to move without the ball in his hands.

We don't succeed offensively until Shacks 2 points get fixed.

Sanders doesnt improve. The offense can still improve. No mention of how crucial turnovers are to the team? Or on different types of offense being generated?Pick and roll with Gettys. Sanders creating more off his dribble drive for others.

Sanders is not the only one that can score. Right now, he can barely score. So maybe the offense shifts focus. Like Pikiell said, driving more and not shooting as many threes. Everyone driving and getting fouled.

I may be wrong....but, I'm not seeing pick and rolls with Gettys or Freeman

UNCW ran pick and rolls a ton with Gettys, but they never gave him the ball. He has decent hands, and remember when he drove to the basket on that one play versus Seton Hall from the 3?Has large strides and just missed it. UNCW was heavily guard focused. He rolled so well.

I would not advise a pick and pop, as now Gettys is away from the basketball hoop and cant rebound. A pick and roll with him could work though, as well as Freeman.

It probably won't happen,as we are just commenting on how the games are going, but we are not a 3 pt shooting team, and gettys has efficiency around the hoop. How else would you like to see the team score?

People are talking about how the team can't shoot, and that is apparent. Why isn't anybody mentioning turnovers?Lol.

In general, what we say on here is just opinions, and Pikiell runs the show. I wonder how more offense can be generated though. What we say will not affect much, but I guess more for conversation.

Oddly enough, the step back has not been seen. Not too odd, seeing the offense is not catered towards it. Like you said, he is getting used to playing in space, creating in space.

His shot is not just not falling. He is not shooting is at all. Which means in practice and working by himself, it is not falling. Well see what happens.

Hopefully, some top notch PG has been watching and say to himself: I can start from day 1. I like the talent and coaching staff. I could really enjoy myself there!

Almost as useful as this thread singling out the hurt player who had better game than the healthy point guard.
You don't even know the starters names. I would infer you haven't watched much this year and thus have a narrow viewpoint. And I didn't start the thread.

Maybe i just don't like to single out players. It's a team sport. Get it yet?

Yeah you really took the high road. I'll let the mods know that we can no longer talk about individual players, just the team...sounds absurd right? Get it yet?

I guess you brought us back to my post you originally quoted. Why single out Sanders, who played hurt and had a better game than "the other guard". Maybe it wasn't an in depth and thoughtful analysis, more like stating the obvious.

I agree with some of the posers above that Sanders, more so than coach, is just going to have to work through it/figure it out. Yes, his confidence in his outside shot it totally gone.I also agree that the midrange game may be his best bet--take the 12-footer or get the defense to react and dish.

My educated guess....

Corey needs to shoot off the dribble. He has no confidence in catch and shoot. Step back 3s or dribble 3s are low percentage shots and not part of what Pikiell wants on O.
