Just tweeted he’s taking classes online and really excited for them to start......
So is he not supposed to take classes while earning money for his family and supposed to stick around RU and play here again, when he truly didn't want to stay for another year??
He wasn't going to improve his playing status enough to get drafted, which is the only thing that would have given him a shot to play here in the states vs overseas next year.....instead he earned a camp invite with Houston and the G-League and like a lot of talented players, finds out that there are only so many spots in the NBA or GLeague...... The program did as much as they could to help make the best decision for him, but I don't see any downside for him to take classes....they all should strive to earn their degrees, whenever possible.....
Dont particularly find it strange.
Someone commented similarly to you about his current situation via his instagram. Corey comments to the likes of, I needed to provide for my daughter.
So now hes making money and working towards his degree. Also you have no idea if the school is covering it or not. Pike alluded to him being allowed to finish school.
It's none of our business to judge his decisions. I think the only reason some of us judge is because a red a$$ may linger over his leaving. Let it go and wish him well.
Well that’s just it. Your last part, if we someone how agreed to pay for it, it’s unbelievable blunder.
What in the world is this (negative) obsession with Corey's choice to continue taking classes? He has a family to support. He's not the first person to attend school part time while working. If anything I find it more admirable.
Just let it go, this is probably the only place I'd expect to see someone painted as a villain for trying to do the right thing for themselves and their family.
Who the **** cares? Leave it alone. Doesnt affect you one bit.
Guys providing for his kid and finishing up his degree. You look pathetic complaining about this every day.
None of my biz but you made a thread to discuss your original post and the situation. Gotcha.
This isnt analyzing college basketball. This is analyzing/complaining about a young mans decision to take care of his kid and get his degree. Pathetic.
I may not understand it, but I think sometimes we judge these guys' decisions looking through the prism of someone who has much more life experience. I didn't always make the best decisions at that age. In this case or others like it, I'm just glad to see someone make a positive decision.I’m not judging Corey Sanders the person. I’m examining how unique this situation is in college basketball in general. Edited OP to make that more clear. Take away the names and the Rutgers connection while you analyze this. It’s baffling.
Too many people are liking my post thinking it should cause a positive reaction (from a college baskeball perspective; obv great he’s getting his degree). This situation is so off the wall...
Did you actually think people would have a negative reaction to this? Lol.
Surprised you haven’t blamed Pikiell yet.
Your takes are often very bad.
Just tweeted he’s taking classes online and really excited for them to start......
Not the act itself, good for Corey, but in regards to the original value proposition he was deciding between - yes I thought people would not take kind to this or find it puzzling. Kind of shows how far away we are from having a big time fan base.
Well that’s just it. Your last part, if we some how agreed to pay for it, it’s unbelievable blunder.
I don’t find a college basketball fan analayzing college basketball strange or pathetic.
It’s none of your business to judge my decision making.
for the record, Sojo I think you are taking an unfair beating here...the board seems very sensitive about things like good lord...relax everyone
I'm not understanding what your objection is.
You say you're not upset that Corey left to go pro to earn money to support his family. And you also say you are not upset that he want to earn the remaining credits needed to get the degree he has worked toward.
The post I quoted seems to imply that you are upset that Rutgers is honoring his scholarship so he can take classes. Is that the issue? You do realize that honoring scholarships is a Big Ten rule: http://www.espn.com/college-sports/...ntees-four-year-scholarships-student-athletes
The Big Ten announced Wednesday that all of its institutions will grant athletic scholarships for the entire term of an athlete's enrollment and allow some athletes who leave school to return and finish their degrees on scholarship.
Scholarships will be "neither reduced nor cancelled" as long as athletes maintain good standing in school, within the athletic department and in the community. If athletes leave school for "a bona fide reason," they will be allowed to return at a later date to complete their degrees on scholarship.
I’m spelling it out for you and you’re missing the point. I am literally stating I’m not judging Corey’s decision. You’re ignoring what I’m saying I’m not sure what your problem is. Please stop replying/hijacking the thread.
You guys couldn’t be more offbase it’s upsetting.

Wonder how many credits he needs for his degree? Luv to se Corey get it from RU. He played hard here, stayed with us thru coaching change and the last two years he played 35+ min a nite. And he actually made being late from xmas break funny...."coach is not going to be happy". Root for the kid.
I wonder how many other basketball players leave college early only to pay for their own classes to complete their degree right after they leave while “playing” professionally during the season? Yes this is so normal.....not
Cmon this is a ridiculous scenario playing out in front of our eyes and everyday it gets stranger!
He's not "back here". He's taking online classes. And who knows how many he is taking? Guess I'm missing the strangeness of this. "I read Corey is taking online classes and working toward getting his degree. Good for him." I think that would've been the only reaction by any normal human. Any other one would be strange.I think maybe he was just pointing out it was strange that Corey left a year early and now we find him back here a year later taking classes but not playing basketball, at least thats how I read it, it didnt have to be that way
Good for Corey for coming back and valuing his education and what it can bring him in the future for him and his family
