I got passed by dodge car with state tags headed north on I-49 tonight only to see them pulled over a mile or so up the road. Hope it wasn't one of y'all.

If you keep it at 78 or so, you should be fine but if you get clocked at 80 plus, you will likely get a ticket. They know all state fans will be coming that way.

78 is the perfect speed
As long as it's above the minimum run whatever your perfect speed is, in the appropriate lane. But if in the passing lane and I'm coming up hot move your 17ing *** over.
It's becoming the law in more states for a reason, dubmass; you are not the damn highway patrol

Enforcement of the left-lane law started in Alabama yesterday. It became law a month or two or three ago with a grace period. Now there's no excuse. Also, rear passenger seat belt use is now mandatory ... but riding is the bed of a pickup is still legal. Go figger.

Explain the law to me. If you are going 80 in the left lane and the speed limit 70 are you good to go?

No. The new law in Alabama, which is probably a copy of other states' laws, says you can only be in the left lane for 1.5 miles unless you are passing another car. You can't just cruise all day in the left lane regardless of speed. There are exceptions, of course ... such as congestion (you'd be passing cars all the time in that case, and others would be passing you), road construction, and a few other things.

The left lane law has nothing to do with the speed limit. It dictates you must get back over to the right lane (or middle lane, where applicable) immediately after passing on a controlled access highway. As it is written, there is a 1.5 mile window that starts as soon as you pass a car. If you don’t pass another car or get back over within 1.5 miles, its a ticket. Very sensible law, but I think enforcement is going to be pretty difficult.
