I told you guys last week when the UConn stuff came out. It is standard MO for Duke to have guys to act like they are going somewhere else at the end but then announce Duke like they came in a stole them away, when everyone knew it would be Duke. I don't get their fascination with doing that. I imagine that Scheyer and Rat Face are sitting in Scheyers office giggling like a school girls right now.

I imagine the Boozer twins situation playing out like this too .

duke isnt getting all the studs like people think. and cooper was destined to go to duke
alot of ties through his mom.
they haven't had an elite recruit except the 7 footer who came back a 2nd year whose name I can't recall as I pay so little attention to them now as they aren't actually relevant . They have what we call around here a CORCH . Not a coach but a corch. a dud . a nothing.

I don't think the twins play together as well. I think one might go to Miami and one to Uk.

In the age of the transfer portal, the importance of high school recruiting has diminished. It’s still important, of course. But I think finding those skilled and projectible lower ranked high school players who project to be solid to really good college players as upperclassmen has taken on as much or greater importance than landing 5-star OADs.

It seems to me that the model of building a college team on recruiting OADs is outdated – if it was ever a smart long-term strategy – especially for a program that should have all the tools to “eat first” in the transfer portal. I think that team-building approach is kind of on par with an offense that hasn’t realized the impact of the 3pt. shot.

In fact, I think it’s arguable that landing the “No. 1 class” might be counterproductive to winning. If your team is heavily reliant on OAD freshmen, and (1) those freshmen leave after one season before their talent has developed into higher level of play (and maybe their bodies and minds matured a little more); and (2) then you rinse-and-repeat every season with a new group of not-quite-ready-for-prime-time players and very little hold over players – it’s going to be really hard to beat the best teams or win a championship. That “talent” might be enough to routinely handle the 2nd or 3rd tier level of teams, but I think it’ll too often come up short against the teams with the best upperclassmen.

So, as far as I’m concerned, I hope Duke (or whoever) wins the recruiting title every year - as long as that title is based on how many OAD freshmen are brought in each year.

In Scheyer's first year, they got the consensus #2, #3, and #4 recruits.

Shocking! This one was in the bag for a long time. It’d be like people being shocked Wagner picked UK.

I still don’t get people fretting over Duke and Scheyer. Duke fans doing their best to convince themselves they still have someone like K running the show.

I think NIL is really going to help Duke, they have a very wealthy alumni base and I think we will see that be a factor for schools like Duke and Notre Dame. When I once thought this program would die without K, the NIL thing might be bigger for them than almost any other school.

However, the ACC just lost more teams, and if Duke doesn't figure something out, they will be in a mid-major conference before long. That's really the bigger question for them going forward.. where do they land in the conference shake-up? The good thing for them is that their football program continues to hover in that 40-20th range, so maybe there's a landing spot for them.

.. but if there's not, and they are playing in a conference with Tulsa, UAB, etc.. their recruiting will take a hit.

In slightly unrelated news.. I wonder what will happen to these G-Leagues. I figured they were going to steal all the top recruits, but again, the NIL era changed this drastically. Can the G-League even offer the highest pay these days? Because a guy like Cooper Flagg would have been perfect for this league a few years ago.. but he's probably making more at Duke.

I also am starting to wonder about these leagues actually developing talent. We all thought they were the right choice (or I did at least) for the uber talented to not deal with Colleges antiquated ways. But man, the recent G-league players don't look all that great in the NBA. Jalen Green, Kuminga.. Scoot Henderson has been woeful to start. Daishen Nix is nowhere to be found. Jaden Hardy.. good but nothing great.

Makes you wonder if the G-leagues will start to fizzle out with the elite HS talent.. now that these guys can make more money in college, have the degree in their back pocket for later in life, AND still be the man on campus.

I think we’ll hear less and less about the g league. I never saw it as a long term thing, mainly because even the most diehard bball fans don’t watch it. And like you said, no one has really excelled from it. They had a small window for it, but seems it has passed with NIL and lack of results.

I don’t know much about the inner workings, but I do like what I read on OTE. Seems like kids have options to keep their college eligibility or get paid and just work towards the draft.

I've wondered about that myself. With football being king and the possibility of Clemson, FSU, UNC and Virginia exiting the ACC, does Duke BB survive as a national power playing in a 2nd tier conference?

Want did Flagg do to act like he was going somewhere else? I didn’t see a single tweet from him suggesting so. Maybe I missed one if he did. He went on visits to schools other than Duke but every recruit goes on multiple visits. So how did Flagg make it look like he was going somewhere else?

This kid is so good, you pair him with other top notch talent and they're going to win the title. It is what it is. We can act like "Scheyer sucks as a coach" and "he'll screw it up" but that's just juvenile fan banter. Cooper Flagg is HIM, as they say. A big notch above anyone in this current UK class (Edwards, Wagner, Bradshaw, Dilly, Shep).

Better than Edward's and Dilly?

If they were somehow a way to make a legitimate bet, I’m willing to put up $15-$20k that Flagg doesn’t win a championship in college.

A Coach K had HIM in Zion. We all saw how that worked out.
And K is 1,000,000x the coach Scheyer is.

Definitely. Unless the roster or NILs don't fit. But, I agree. I'd be shocked if they didn't pick Duke in the end.
Same . There had been UK talk but I’m not buying it at all . The only thing that could have possibly kept them from going to Duke was it Flagg stayed in the same class as them and even then I wasn’t buying that they didn’t want to play with each other .

Win something first and then you can say he is eating first. 😂😂
his record was just as good or better than ccc & went just as far in the tournament.
they won their conference tournament while uk was bounced 1st game.
dislike Duke as much as anyone, but uk today is not the uk of past & won't be as long as
ccc only cares about draft position instead of winning games

and still lost to an 11 loss UT team who finished 5th in the SEC. 😂😂

If Scheyer had won the National Championship last year, we would still need way more than a one season sample size from a Russian roulette event to know what kind of long term Head Coach he was going to be. Kevin Ollie anyone?

A 27-9 rookie debut (that saw a healthy roster for maybe a quarter of it) and which saw him become only the third first year Coach in the 70 year history of the league to win the ACC Championship won’t have him eyeing the unemployment line for a while.
