Vendor of mine was rear-ended yesterday. The lady who hit him was a veterinarian. She's from TN & was down here on a couple CWD cases. She told him, "yeah MS is bad, but what they're not telling you is south TN is worse. They are eat up with it, & it's getting worse."

I didn't realize how bad it's gotten. Her comment concerns me. Admittingly, I haven't paid that much attention to it, so I'm just going on what she told him. Is it true there's not much talk about about TN?

Can’t really say how much talk there is, but I was also under the impression that it was really bad in SW TN.

I’ve never heard of any part of Tennessee described as South Tennessee.

That's what I was wondering. Where the hell is south TN? Haywood and Fayette , I guess this is "south TN", had their status changed from high risk to CWD positive.

Just North of Marshall County

the two adjoining TN counties were reporting cases of CWD, about two years ago.

Yes SW Tenn is probably where the CWD in Mississippi came from. From what I’ve heard they are absolutely overrun with it.

Me either. Always West, Middle, and East. Sometimes you might hear "southern Middle Tennessee", but her description could be anywhere from Chattanooga to Memphis and halfway up the state.

Mississippi has had additional positives this year, but I believe they have all been in Marshall and Benton Counties-maybe one or two outside that area, but still in the north portion of the state. Mississippi hunters have turned in fewer samples to be tested this year--I think a little more than half of what was tested last year. Below is a fairly recent map of TN positives. MDWFP map is not available as of the writing of this post, but check it temporarily for when they update it.

I live in Fayette County and CWD is really bad. Hardeman County is bad as well. They are in the process of installing an incinerator at the Fayette Co. dump to burn all effected carcasses.
The game warden here has told me they have discovered 6 different strands of the disease and they also know is has a 21 day gestation period of being diagnosed. Basically you could kill a deer thats infected during this 21 day time frame and still will test negative.

He told me he will not ever eat deer meat again until this stuff is gone. Take this info for what it's worth.

Did the floodwaters last year and early this year possibly wipe out some of the infected deer in MS?

Sometimes nature has a way of taking care of things like overpopulation....

The deer testing positive in Marshal and Benton are migrating out of Tn. I was told that the positive tests in Issaquena are from a fenced hunting club full of imported deer that was essentially abandoned once a majority of its owners went to prison from the Tobacco lawsuit, thus allowing the penned deer to escape into the wild. The positive tests in Pontotoc are not geographically connected to the other two so no idea where it came from. I have a friend in Missouri who is a few years ahead of us dealing with this. They have a map of positive tests in his county and in the center of the map is the shop of a taxidermist who is the go to guy for all the hunters in St Louis for mounts. They have pretty much determined that ground zero is the carcass dump from this taxidermy shop.
