We made history tonight along with Texas in the most strikeouts in a single game. Once the ump got his name in the history books so to speak, perhaps the strike zone got smaller?

What you are noticing is something that has happened since ESPN bought the live rights to SEC football, basketball and baseball games.
If you look at the trend of games being much closer than in the past, prior to the ESPN contract for SEC Network, you will see that there are SIGNFICANTLY more close games in all 3 sports.
Here is what I have noticed.
In basketball games, the first half the underdog gets several calls to keep the game close until halftime, especially when they underdog is on the road. In the second half, the calls start to be more fair and even.
In football games, a few calls are made to slow the momentum of the game for the better team, usually only 2-3 calls. Then any 50/50 calls will mostly go to the underdog in the 3rd quarter.
In baseball games, the plate is squeezed for the team trailing in the 7th-9th inning, just as we saw for Sims last night.
And games end much closer, and ESPN sells much more advertising and gets more viewers.
The most watched baseball game of any baseball game in 2019, college or MLB, was game 3 of Vandy vs. Michigan in the CWS finale.

I can sort of believe this is happening but in no way can it be policy. I suspect it’s human nature response by the officials. Those officials that have this tendency get promoted.
I don’t know where you think you got your numbers, but Game 7 of the 2019 World Series was watched by 23 million people. Game 3 of the 2019 CWS finals was watched by just over 2 million people. If you’re going to try to use facts in your post, make sure they are correct.
I honestly thought he called a very "accurate" zone most of the night. Maybe too accurate. Bednar got one up pretty high called a strike and the horns got one down and in against James that was out of the zone.
The problem is, there was no human element other than mistakes. If the human umpire is not going to give the pitcher a little extra zone once he's proven he is on fire and is nailing the target a few inches off the plate, after the game goes on, why have a human umpire at all?

The umpire got really inconsistent in the late innings. In the bottom of the 8th, Sims throws two high fastball that are called balls. 3-1 count, he throws the exact same pitch in the exact same location and it’s called a strike. He ended up striking the guy out. Bottom of the 9th, umpire calls low fastball on a 3-2 count for a strike, and Sims throws the exact same pitch to the next batter and it’s called a ball on what should’ve been strike three to end the game. An inconsistent strike zone is the worst thing an umpire can have because nobody knows what a strike or a ball is.
What were the teams combined strikeout numbers because that has to be close to if not a CWS record as well. We have two of batters combine to K 7 times. Madden is legit and he will be a MLB pitcher for sure.

Simple fix: do NOT permit a human being to call balls/strikes. Rather, go to the completely neutral computer that will never make a mistake when calling balls/strikes.
It's WAY past time to do this.
