Wow. If you told me 3 years ago that a guy who did not start for RU was going to be able to transfer to St. John with a scholarship, I would have thought you were crazy. Times have changed.

I was just reading an article about a 6-11 transfer from Fordham who just committed to SJU as well. It went over their roster for the coming season without Mathis and I thought it looked pretty good. MM will need to perform to get major minutes. SJU could be a contender in the BE next year and a likely NCAA team. Anderson is damn good coach. I wish MM all the best.

He started for 3 years straight....
He was demoted to the bench around the middle of season, wound up averaging 21.3 minutes a game starting 13 of RU's 28 games in the 2020-21 season
2019-20 he started every game and averaged 22.6 minutes a game
2018-19 started 22 of 31 games averaging 22.9 minutes a game.

St.John's getting a good player, but not a 3 year starter

Too bad Tez couldn’t have a senior night.....tough defender and loved some of his dunks...looks like he wanted more minutes after starting so many games. With losing Myles,Jacob and Tez, probably losing our best three defenders.
Good luck with the Johnnies,,,

The coach does not care who starts, it's the guys who get the minutes in the fourth period. MM was never injured, never missed a game. He started or played every game in his RU career.

Oh, baloney! Are you his mom or something? Well, I am sorry if I offended your son.

The games that I watched showed that he was getting passed on the depth chart by other players like Mulcahy and McConnell. I also see Coach Pike wanting to see what he has in Jaden Jones in the future, and don't be surprised if Geo comes back next year as well. The writing was on the wall, dude.

He was the player who had me most excited coming into this year - I felt he was on the cusp of taking his game to the next level. Unfortunately he seemed to regress and looked lost - frustrating to watch at times. It was time for to go and press the reset button. I wish him nothing but the best.

While he may not have gotten a raw deal, I think he was the guy who Pike messed with the most when in came to adjusting minutes. Was he bad at times? yes, but as has been said many times nearly everyone on that team was inconsistent throughout the year. Maybe Pike did not think he had the ceiling to warrant playing through numerous unproductive drives to the hoop.

How much we will miss him depends on who else is added to the roster. Maybe Jaden Jones lives up to his billing and is ready for a major role. One area that might be overlooked is toughness. While he was quiet guy he rarely backed down from anyone and toughness was not an attribute I would assign to many on last years team.
