Congratulations, ChlilBilly. Your flag made the cut.

To me, it was best of two left. Shield looked several other logos. And more of a logo not a flag. Also, magnolia had more Mississippi roots other than just a guy with a degree from ole miss. I feel like designers should be from Mississippi and reside in Mississippi to be considered. After all we are the Magnolia State, I wish they would have taken a few other Rocky's designs farther, but I like the concept of this one. Good luck in November because it has an uphill battle because it will face opposition from the people still pissed about the old flag, from those who just don't like the flag, and for those who wanted the stennis flag or great river flag.

Congrats Rocky. Was hoping a Mississippi designed flag would make the final cut.

I drove by the Old Capitol this morning where they've got actual flags of both on display. Seeing them as real flags makes the difference between them a LOT more noticeable. The blue one is very plain and looks like a cheap generic shield on a solid blue flag. The Magnolia Flag looks so much better.

Is the Magnolia flag the only one to be on the ballot in November, just needing a majority Yes vote to be the new flag? The shield is gone?

That is correct. We will vote the Magnolia flag up or down. If we reject it, the Commission will select another flag to submit for vote. This could go on a long time. But I hope we vote yes in November and put this behind us.

If they would have put some stripes on the "shield flag" - it would have been much better. Did you ever see it with stripes?

I’m pleased with the flag. I have no doubt it will serve as a great state flag if we can get people to let go of the old flag. As someone else said, it looks great in actual flag form.

Agree. It wasn't my first choice, or even my first choice of the flags ChillBilly designed. But it's a pretty good flag and I think it's time to move on. I'm just afraid between the pissed off old flag supporters, the pissed off Stennis flag supporters, and a few random people who just legitimately may not like this flag, it's going to be hard to get 50% + 1 yes votes.

It's certainly a good looking, sophisticated flag. It looks better than the old flag, even if you don't consider the Confederate battle flag objections. In fact, it's probably the best looking of any of the other 49 flags.

If the flag is approved, can we get Chillbilly’s original post moved to Sixpack Remembers?

Most anything would look better than the old flag. Even ignoring the history and symbolism, it was ugly as hell. But yeah. That’s a good looking flag. It looked better as a real flag at the Old Capitol than the image of it looks.

This is really the ideal scenario. Ole miss fans weren’t going to like anything because they want to live in the past. Might as well pick one that State fans can get behind.

What are the gold bars supposed to represent? They weren't added by ChillBilly, so what is the point? Is this the Egg Bowl version of the flag?

They did. The committee had the authority to change any of the submitted designs, and 2 different graphic designers contributed to the original design. 1 of them added a different magnolia, and one of them added the gold bars (which I still don't understand). The big gold star was added by the committee mandate and is supposed to recognize the Native cultures we took the land from.

Yeah, not a fan of making the red and gold sections larger. Think it would look better with a blue square, cut the gold bars in half, and the rest red. That's basically what it was before yesterday. I didn't listen to the meeting so not sure why they changed it from what they had 2 weeks ago.

I like the Magnolia flag better too. Especially after it was pointed out to me from the good folks at the /r/vexillology subreddit that the shield logo looks like a butt over a toilet. It even has a chocolate starfish.

And 4 years from now, we can remove the "In God We Trust" part. Straight up retarded to even include it in my opinion.

It represents the great gold rush of 1849, how can you be that stupid not to know that. ***

I see a lot of people in the media and online posting the old version of the design ultimately chosen by the commission. For some reason, the commission changed the design to make the red panels and gold bars much wider, leaving us with the below design. It looked WAY better before they messed it up. Now it looks like the red and gold are about to smash the magnolia. Ugh.
