Should be sometime over the next couple of days - I’m hoping it’s today. Really interested to see how it’s all laid out this season.

Or how we get screwed with only 1 game against Cincinnati. League knows we can spoil things, especially at home.

Damn.... That late January to mid February slate looks like a murderer's row this season.

Improved UConn team at home then @UCF, @Cincy, Houston, Memphis, @Wichita State. Not an "easy" game among those.

Wichita State is not going to be that good this year. Lots of turmoil and turnover from the end of last season.

Did I miss something or do we only play UCONN, SMU, USF, and UCF once? I don't care about the UCONN, USF, or UCF, but seriously, we should ALWAYS play SMU 2X per year

Still tough to play in front of their sellout crowd, which comes because there is nothing else to do in Wichita.

I’d love to clown them, but I can’t knock their support. Those folks support WSU through and through. I wish so badly we had that type of following.

They did give us 2 against Cincinnati. Makes up for only 1 game against SMU.
The issue with that is neither us nor Cincinnati consider each other a rival. Outside of it being a conference game, there's nothing special. We've drawn a few extra fans when SMU comes to town.

The league tries to schedule so that the top of the league has the strongest schedule possible. I think they expect us to be good but aren’t sure how good. While we have 2 against ECU we only have 1 with USFand 2 with Cincy. SMU fell on their butt last season after Shake was injured and I don’t think they expect them to be recovered yet.

The league thinks it has a crystal ball and can tell which teams will be good the next year. Before kids even show up on campus. Never mind 1st semester grades, injuries, team departures, etc.

They follow some general rules but then twist and turn so they get the match ups they think will be best.

We're kinda of helpless there when it comes to SMU. WSU is our travel partner so we will always get them and SMU is Houston's. They wanted two Wichita SMU match ups last year. It may be a while before we get them twice.

Despite being top 3 in conference wins since we joined we are routinely picked 8,9, or 10. Although we finished outside of the top half only once and we could have been 5th with a last regular season game win. As long as that perception persists we will get left overs..

The league doesn't use travel partners in the same way the WAC did otherwise the schedule would make more sense and you'd get the Thursday/Saturday home weekends and road weekends knowing if you had road game at Cincinnati, you'd also have a road game against Memphis that week. If you host USF, you also would host UCF that weekend. The AAC schedule has no such common sense in it.

We are paired with wsu.

Tulane and Memphis

Houston SMU

Cincy Temple*

UConn ECU*

USF UCF

Games get moved for TV.

Games are chosen to give best match ups so "best" teams will avoid playing "worst" teams twice.

Aresco has discussed it a lot. Two parts to it, match ups and geography.

Match ups are made to avoid rpi killers for the expected top teams and boost their resumes. One of the reasons we dont have a challenge with another conference is the options will drag our bottom teams even lower in the rpi (which is no longer a factor now) and hurt our conference's top rpi when they play.

They also do it based on what match ups networks want, including switching dates for tv games to be showcased.

The west is fairly compact and easy to match up geographicaly. Because some of the east is spread so far out you can't bus no matter what, it gives the AAC more flexibility with who they pair although the Florida's will always be together.

Would a flex schedule like what C-USA has done make sense then? Not in the sense where we would play certain conference teams a 3rd time, but possibly allow for a flex where we would not play USF or an ECU a 2nd time and get that 2nd game against SMU or UCONN

It's about the eye test now, so the conference is doing it right in my opinion although Tulsa is always picked 8th or 9th and finishes 4th.

They need to quit playing Nostradamus and just set up a rotating schedule allowing rivalries to build and fans to know what to expect year in year out. Injuries, team chemistry, coaching issues, natural disasters all can effect teams and are unpredictible. Just do it by the numbers and it will balance out is my opinion
