Conference Pride

Where do you stand on the spectrum? Do you care if the teams in your conference do well or do you only care about Kentucky.

For me personally I've only cared about Kentucky. I could careless if the SEC wins a championship in football every year or if Florida wins one in basketball. I've never understood UofL fans and them boasting about the BIG East or ACC.

I want the SEC to do well in basketball - in OOC especially. They need to up their SOS and win those games.
Really, they need to play all their games like they're playing Kentucky. Sick and tired of the SEC being perceived as weak, yet we struggle with it at times.
Come to post season? I don't give an ish, overall. It depends on the team

i'm killing vandy today. i'm an sec homer though. i've lived in sec country during high school. and have seen local writers gloat over whatever they can get from kentucky, and it annoys you. but i think football helps bring it all home. it's the best, and sec teams (excluding uk ironically) actually win in the post season in football. sounds fair weather but i was watching big ten football back when it was kick *** before i moved south. so i just love football. florida has been the only team since arkansas to threaten us at any point. as bad as it is in football, it's been that good in basketball. in football we can project whatever we want and we know we have zero chance of winning the sec east ever, let alone the conference championship game. in basketball we can have a down year and still have a chance at an sec championship or sect title.

I could care less about the other teams.....they don't root for us in BB and I don't need to ride their coat tails in FB, we'll be contenders there soon enough.

Only if it directly benefits UK. I don't cheer for the conference. I don't get the conference pride thing. Further, I only moderately care what the other KY state schools do. Then there is UL. I am crafting new ways to hate UL. Bastards.

I get the conference pride thing - have been guilty of it myself once or twice. But overall agree with your post; might cheer a team within conference, but not because they are SEC, it's because i like their team/coach

I like the instates schools - hope they do well, no matter what division. Well, except the one in the Division I ACC who has imposed a self-season ban. NOt naming any names, though

I use to be all about the SEC, but that has slowly disappeared. I would always try to defend the SEC, and while I don't think it's as bad as the media makes it, it's not that great. It benefits UK because we walk into rowdy environments and get the very best from teams, and that helps us come March. Buuuut when UK isn't in town you're looking at empty gyms and some sloppy ball. It's frustrating as hell bc if teams/fans just put a fraction of the effort they do when UK is in town the league would be so much better. Instead most teams, fans, and coaches consider it a good season if they get to beat UK.

My hope is that the sec network will start to put some pressure on schools to put out a better product. I think the league is slowly going in a better direction, it's just trying to keep improving on that. Maybe in the next 5-10 years well see improvement. All I know is it gets very old playing maybe one, if were lucky, ranked team in the SEC.

They don't cheer for us gang. They just don't. In bb, they hate us because we dominate. In fb, they laugh at us and mark us down as a W. Conference pride, bah.

who watches sec football and who doesn't? that plays a part imo. who likes football and has attended multiple sec home games and road games etc. they are events bigger than anything in college basketball. it really comes down to that. if you like it and watch it will rub off on you. it was just pulling for them in bowl games, that had nothing to do with anything, now they are playing for a title every year. it's hard to miss if you like football just in general.

I am a UK grad...1976. Been a UK fan since 1966. I support the SEC in football, baseball, and really do not care about the olympic sports, but, don't really follow. I only watch SEC basketball when UK is playing in the game. The SEC does nothing to support and celebrate UK basketball. They (SEC) do everything they can to minimize UK in basketball promos that they do for SEC basketball. If they did the same for Alabama football, you would see promos with Kentucky and Vandy leading the way...you hardly see a snap of second on UK or Vandy football in SEC promos....dominated by Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn...the powers....the way it ought to be...but, in basketball...NO. So, screw the SEC in basketball. I don't care if they get any bids. I don't care if they are successful. The national basketball people don't think of UK and SEC basketball in the same breath, they just think UK basketball. The SEC resents us in basketball.

I have no pride or rooting interest in the conference. But I'm tired of it sucking. Damnit, the putrid state of this conference is sucking some fun out of the regular season. We play good teams with good players and then we wait for two months for the tournament to start.

Maybe it's been so long others have forgotten, but SEC conference games used to be fun. They were worth getting hyped for. It's fun to play good teams. I made a post about the 1998 team today. Looking at the schedule we played four ranked teams just in conference regular season, and another two in the SEC tournament that year. This year we played 0.

This conference is awful, terrible, sucks, and is the pits.And please don't defend it.They don't care. They hire coaches who just lost in the first round of the NIT. They keep crappy coaches employed for years and years.

Only uk, learned that no one cheers for us as we carry the sec banner every March so they can all go kick rocks. I don't chant "sec" either in football cause we haven't shown that we can compete there either. When all these other fans come here seeking validation & talk trash after tee shirt night, arrest my case.

I've always found this to be incredibly stupid to care about rivals and our conference. We have folks on here that are total cheerleaders about SEC football winning titles and act as if it's a reflection on us. Meanwhile every team in our conference hates us and celebrates when we lose in basketball.

You never see Tennessee or Florida fans saying "Yeah, SEC! SEC! SEC! I'm rooting for Kentucky to win." Doesn't happen.

I care about the SEC too in November and December but after that it's all UK especially in the post season. I want the SEC to perform well in the first two months to help boost the conference RPI and get some ranked teams providing for quality wins and less chances to get a bad loss. In the tourney I could care less if everyone but UK was out after round one.
