Concerns about Coach CB...

A concern of mine is how much longer will Coach CB stick around. She has done a great job here at UNC. If she doesn't get the financial support from UNC or donors she may leave UNC. The 2026-2027 class was shaping up to be our best year in many years. I believe if everyone had stayed and if coach had picked up 2 pieces to add to the players we had coming back that we would advance to the final 8 and even have a chance at the final 4. If I was CB I'd let the AD know that the amount of money flowing into the WBB team has to improve. If the AD doesn't give the team more money then i believe she will leave at some point. She wants to win and she is not playing on a level playing field.

I agree totally with you on that fact. The same can be said about our women's softball team. Megan and Staff have done a blank of a job with the softball program. This program has soared to great heights ever since Megan and Staff first arrived on campus. As posters, we all know that we need better pitching in order for this program to take another major step. In order to do this the money flowing into softball must improve as well.

The situation sucks, but there isn't a whole lot the AD can do. Football and men's basketball have claimed 99% of the revenue share. What other schools have & we need, and I'd like to think CB would have identified by now if they exist, is boosters who want women's basketball to truly be contending for a national championship every season.

UNC, as we all know is highly ranked year-in, year-out as one the best universities in the country. A portion of that ranking is derived from the excellence in athletics that UNC achieves (also on a yearly basis). It has actually earned UNC the moniker of University of National Champions. While one of the two “revenue sports” contributes regularly to UNC’s athletic success, the other is more consistent in delivering frustrating levels of failure. I say this from both a 30-year RC member and FB season ticket holder but I enjoy attending WBB, baseball, WSC, MSC, lacrosse as well as other “non-revenue earning” sports almost as much as Saturday game days in the fall.

By supporting fully these “minor sports“ at UNC, we not only help keep up often adding to the reputation as the University of National Champions but help keep UNC as a school, one of the most sought after places in the world to pursue a college education. If and when we start dropping these programs, we will have consciously started chipping away at the fabric that makes UNC special, the kind of special that “money” can’t buy.

I am not naive enough to think money doesn’t matter but I’m also not naive enough to fall for athletic department reports that lack the actual details. Think about it, we more than likely last year invested more money in 3-4 players on both the football and MBB teams than we spent on the whole budget for WBB or WSC or women’s lacrosse or …<insert name of any other UNC sport here> !

The money just isn't there. If we were in the SEC and had another 20-30 million coming in from media rights, we could ask donors to cover more costs to the non revenue sports.

There are plenty of players in the class of 2027 that are very interested in Carolina, if one or two of them commit the ceiling would be off the chart for the women's basketball program. CB realize the future is is right around the corner for this program to become a top 10 team, and interest from fans and donors will have no choice but to take notice of what's transpiring.

Thanks for that information kjcooper. That is inspiring for sure. I think we all need something like that moving forward.
