I was going to post something about how nobody is normalizing weird behavior by the ultra wealthy. But then I realized I would be trying to make a point to someone who is angry all day and only has the courage to speak their mind while **** faced, anonymously on a message board at 2AM. Not to mention they probably don't remember it the next day...and named themselves ***-a.

I don't own SpaceX but I'd consider it at this price. Maybe it will go lower, but it's a real company doing things that will be a part of humanity's future. Elon is a scumbag and I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire, but I wouldn't let that get in the way of making money. Not a fan of Zuckerberg either but I wish I'd bought Meta at $63 in 2012.

From my limited understanding talking to a colleague who trades stocks frequently, SpaceX has taken its profits and put it directly back into the company. Hence why it appears to be failing. Especially to someone who leans left and wants to push a narrative.

Normalizing earth to near earth orbit is extremely important. The next stage of human development is large structure construction in space whether solar, or industrial, or habitation. I don't trust Elon but a lot of other forward seeking people understand that "going to Mars" is just a way to get people excited vs. "building space factories".

Your tax dollars. No matter how small a percentage of the U.S. Federal budget, going to the moon or Mars is 100% waste. We could use those funds for the FBI, DEA, local policing and reducing human trafficking especially children.

Same mindset of our ancestors digging in the dirt for 500 hundreds years while some nerd played around with copper wire, magnets, and steam. Oh, those tractors aint gonna last...aint enough fuel. I'll take an ox any day.

If you haven't figured out yet, most extremely successful people don't want to "help humanity". At best they want to turn their ambition and restlessness to something that has never been done before. Also, most industrial processes wasted 70% of their energy due to friction and heat, mostly caused by gravity. Designing machinery for a low gravity environment would be much more energy efficient. Especially because you can produce energy using solar in space much easier than on earth. Again, there have to be baby steps...it could take 100-200 years for some of these technologies to have breakthroughs. Steam engine technology to transportation and electrical generation took hundreds of years to develop.

New tech starts out inefficiently, with research and trial and error. AI might cut down on some of that inefficiency but people have to try new things and be willing to fail. And no better people to try than the ultra rich.

We know so much more than we did. We know which technologies don't make sense. Meanwhile, the private sector is not getting it done nor willing to spend much. Neither are your elected representatives.

This is going to cause a storm, but I truly believe it ... "so much for midwestern common sense".

So let me get this straight.

This thread is about some dude I don't know a thing about and how he married his stepdaughter and this is somehow supposed to be a scar on conservatives because..... we elected him? We elected his son? We voted for anyone in his family? No, no and ..... no.

Yet the Democrats actually just replaced a Nazi they voted for and then replaced him by nominating a different guy for the U.S. SENATE who .... Married his cousin and had 2 kids with her.

You can't make this up. OP seriously is no rocket scientist.

We don't know that much...there are daily advances in solar and battery technology that seemed impossible 20 years ago. Every generation thinks they are the pinnacle of technology and then there is a breakthrough. Newtonian and Einsteinian physics models are outdated and there are so many things beyond our grasp to still be discovered. This is why us old people die out to allow new ideas.

It the only argument against conservatives would be that the guy they elected allowed the creepy south african to run an efficiency unit as part of some deal he made to get his support before the election. I mean, it worked to win the election, certainly didn't work as an appointment but Trump and Elon are peas in a pod and there can only be one pea in that pod.

1. What does this have to do with Elon's dad? Nothing.

2. I love DOGE and cutting waste. I know a lot of people hate getting rid of waste, but many of us love it. What they found was startling and disgusting.

Most of the DOGE cuts and savings were recognized in FY 25, not 26 so you posted the wrong number.

25 (DOGE year) spending vs. 24: $276 billion increase

24 vs. 23: $617 billion increase
23 vs. 22: $570 billion
22 vs. 21: $548 billion

Says a lot.

I used numbers from the Monthly Treasury Statement. It doesn't matter about the DOGE cuts. It's overall spending that matters. And of course, the deficits.

I didn't say anything about space exploration. It all fits under on umbrella - technology. AI, robots, power storage, etc. I can't see the future and neither can you, but tech will always be important.
