Competition for spots

Setting aside specific talent assessment, I think there’s going to be great competition in most position rooms.

The DL room feels like it lacks the most.
A couple young guys who may not be ready for the big stage are gonna have to step up.
LB then seems lacking for who’s really pushing for starter status, but there’s at least some guys there to battle it out over the final depth chart.
OL is a concern, but we got 8-10 guys who could all be in the mix for starting jobs.

No question the D-line is a concern..

Chins has to know it’s a concern as well and I’m surprised they haven’t addressed the situation up to this point…

Been loading up mostly on offensive skilled position’s…

I'm still of the opinion that a DL addition will happen but it may be after spring football camps are completed. You will see a lot of good players not happy with there depth position on rosters and that's where I feel we get a good player. I may be wrong but it's just the way I see it going forward. jmo

Agreed. I also imagine DL would be one of the easier positions to plug n play for an experienced guy, even if they miss spring ball.

Exactly, the portal has become the way to shore up deficiencies on a rosters unlike the past where you were stuck with what you had or didn't have.

They need more opportunities to develop and compete

a player entering his 2nd year in the program in 2022 will have been shorted 15 practices

3rd year - 30 practices
4th year - 45 practices
5th year - 60 practices

all because we somehow can’t get to a mere 6 wins and earn the bowl practices

add to that the roster bloat that also stunts growth that has been discussed elsewhere

Missing bowl practices has been devastating.
They should consider allowing non-bowl teams at least a portion of those practices. It’s like kicking the team when their already down.

While I may happen, what do the circumstances dictate? The player likely is not a starter or at least full time. He is playing behind someone(s) he can't beat out. How many teams really have that kind of depth? Probably less than a handful.

Note —- the numbers above do not take into account the illegal practices that were held at an undisclosed location outside of Lincoln in 2020

Well, at least they'll be full.

Some kids are impatient and when you get kids from elite programs they will make a difference to your program. I've never said a starter will transfer in but even that could happen, some kids want a different venue to play in.

It was said that those illegal practices off campus were held by coaching advisers on special teams sad as it sounds how putrid we were on special teams..

12-team playoff. Everybody else gets a bonus game in December regardless of record. Seniors optional.

I don't think it makes much of a difference if you don't have effective practices to begin with. You play how you practice, if your practice is a disorganized mess Monday through Friday, well it's not surprising that would show up on Saturdays.
