Bars before the game: F. I understand that it's 2 miles from the stadium, but downtown was dead.
Tailgating: F. Hot as hell in a parking lot. I guess if you get into one of the 10 caboose trains it might be cool?
People: F-. They were giving their all to keep up with LSU, without the success or good food and fun times.
Heat: FF-. Stagnant, no breeze in a bowl of concrete.

I will give them credit for being organized in their cheering in the first half until we decided to beat their ***. Then they left and didn't come back. Much like my plan for that place.

This may help contribute to why they get good crowds even when they suck - plus being located in a bigger metro area. But yeah I tend to agree, for tailgating, on campus seems much better.

I bet if MSU had been located in Jackson, we'd have had the same situation - from the stadium to a thriving metro.

I know social media should not be a good judge of a fanbase but they were complete idiots. The amount of **** talking they did last week was crazy.

I will say in 2000 - Columbia was awesome.

Thats one of two SEC places..... well 4 now with aTm and Mizz.....that I haven't been. I've always imagined it is a similar situation to Memphis and the LIberty Bowl. If Memphis was a sec school. THe LIberty bowl is about a mile from Memphis campus.

However, I will give Memphis this..... once the fans are hype... Tiger lane is a cool tailgate atmosphere.

I agree 100% on the stadium and fans. Was not impressed with either when we went in ‘98. And we STFU’d them on the opening kickoff…

It was a whirlwind trip and we didn’t get to see much of Columbia. But that is one of the most mixed reviewed places I’ve seen…. Some people say it’s great and just as many say it’s awful. I don’t expect I’ll ever be back to verify for myself.

It was a whirlwind trip and we didn’t get to see much of Columbia. But that is one of the most mixed reviewed places I’ve seen…. Some people say it’s great and just as many say it’s awful. I don’t expect I’ll ever be back to verify for myself.

My wife has to go to training at the National Advocacy Center on campus in Columbia, and she absolutely hates USC and the town.

Columbia is what Jackson would be if you dropped UM in the middle of downtown. Not a compliment to Columbia, but would be a huge upgrade for Jackson. Of the 3 major metros in SC, Columbia is by far a distant 3rd.

However, I thought the in-game atmosphere at SC in 2023 was as good as anywhere else in the conference. Outside the stadium was a very different vibe as many have said. They pack their stadium win or lose.

That looks to me like south and east of the stadium vs walking from downtown.
I’m in Columbia on business about 3-4 times a year and I really like downtown around the Capital Bldg and Gervais St.
Lots of good bars/restaurants within easy walking distance.
But I will agree that south and east of the stadium gets pretty industrial and looks a little rundown but most of the area around the stadium is nice, including the Caboose’s which after I saw them the first time I thought The Junction would be great place for a few of those.

I live in South Carolina and no one likes Columbia. It's a concrete jungle that's hotter than hell. It's got the State Government and USC and a bunch of suburbs (similar to Jackson but it actually functions). USC does like to party though.

USCe has some of the dumbest fans in the SEC, no question. Their arrogance before the game, and lack of follow-through (crow eating) is typical.
