They have essentially double teamed him every time he gets the ball and our roster is so awful it hasn’t caused the defense to be punished over it because we don’t have a lot of offensive weapons. The focus he is getting when he gets the ball should be freeing up other guys to score.

Pretty easy to scheme Kentucky at this point.

1. Face-guard Chandler defensively.
2. Turn Aberdeen into a volume shooter.
3. Let Oweh get his 20 points.
4. Ball-pressure Johnson and make him obsolete.
5. Force Mo-D to drive to the middle of the lane and bait him to take the baby hook shot over taller defenders.
6. Dog Moreno.
7. Use switches to get Noah, Jelavic, and Johnson isolated defensively, and let your offensive players go to work on them.

he has no bag to his game. he is strictly a spot up shooter. pope cant run anything for him because he isnt someone who can come off a down screen and drill a three. he is easy to take away. its rather amazing how well oweh does considering the other 4 defenders for the most part ignore our 4 and 5 man and shade to help on oweh.

Basically, yes. And people say the injury to Williams wasn’t that big of a deal. I mean, he was one of our top 2 3 point shooters and one of our best defenders. Put CC on one wing and Williams on the other and it totally changes things on the offensive end. JMO.

I agree, but I really think this team would be 22-9 (at best) even with a healthy Kam and Lowe. UK beats three of Missouri, Auburn, Georgia, and A&M with those guys.

This team was still poorly constructed. I don't count JQ because he was a high-risk guy from the start with the injury.

Pope has to do an expontentially better job in the next portal cycle. Last year he added or brought back too many guys who don't fit his system (Mo D, Garrison, Lowe, Jelavic).

There are still fans thinking that "if only" Pope can get a fair shake, but I don't think the missing talent (Kam and Lowe) is the type of talent that would have ever made this a Final Four level team. We're soft in far too many areas.

Still hoping we haven’t seen end of Kam this year. He also allowed us to do more switching. We have no one for the Ament, Haugh, Cain type of guys now with length and guard skills. Maybe Kam can go for the SECT?? 🤞

Knock Chandler all you want but without him this year we would be looking at 12-19 instead the glorious 19-12 record. This team overall sucks but you gotta take a long walk before you criticize one of top two players on the team. We have no inside presence, no rebounding, terrible defense played by most of the team. Give me 5 more Chandlers and a couple more Owehs’ and I’ll battle all day long. If Johnson played 3/4 hard as Chandler he wouldn’t be pulling all those splinters out his ***.

I don't think a guy like Kam who was averaging 6.9 points when he went down would have been our savior.
Lulz nobody said that. Williams was an ascending 35% 3 point shooter that we lost to injury. That 35% is kinda skewed because of how bad of a shooting start Williams started out with. He shot 42% from 3 last season. He was also starting to take people off the bounce. Having a guy like that on the opposite wing, forces the opposition to guard him and not double team CC. This isn’t a hard concept.

having williams would be a wash. play williams, chandler, and oweh together and there really is no distributor. chandler would just turn the ball over more. play williams at the 4 instead of mo and you give up defense and mo's hustle plays for a few more points.

whatever added shooting/scoring you get with williams you lose ground with turnovers, defense and some hustle plays.

this is what will get pope a 4th year.....he gets to play the what if card while pointing to some key wins and morale victories.

Unfortunately, you can be having a great conversation until the very moment that you say something that should be easily agreeable but someone thinks “oh no, that one thing could be used for an argument that I don’t agree with” so they have to smash it like a pesky insect.

Chandler and Kam together would open the offense up. Should be an obvious agreeable point to anyone reasonable.

Or maybe you think Williams is better than I do? When someone has to bring up what a player did last season to hype him up maybe he isn't that good this season. I think he would help on D but not much on offense. JMO

this is a silly arguement. the "if we didnt have X we would be way worse".

this is a true statement of everyone on the team. if we didnt have abderdeen we would have 5-6 more loses. if we didnt have moreno we would have 5-6 more loses. there is no margin of error on this team. as proven by the last 2 games when aberdeen, chandler, and moreno played like garbabe. that doesnt mean player X is amazing, it means the team is poorly constructed.

I think that’s the problem, Cornbread. Go read the post Cowtown made again. No one “hyped” anything. He just said Kam would open things up for Collin. As usual, we have battle lines drawn all over this site, so rather than hear what someone is saying we have folks hopping on radio, “We’ve got one over here saying Kam can open up the offense for Chandler.” “Yep, that’ll be a point for the Popers. Better take the shot.” Like — doesn’t have to be like that lol.

Unless you interpreted Cowtown’s post as “Kam Williams is pretty close to prime T Mac”

I think Chandler is s good player and I hope he is back next year, but I think his 3pt shooting for several weeks was a bit of an anomaly. He was automatic for awhile. He may never be that hot from 3pt range again. That doesn't mean he can't be a major factor, but I think people are expecting too much based on a hot streak.

Yeah, man. I take an absolute beating on here over nothing. It’s pretty damn wild. Nobody is happy with this season. No real fan anyway. However, why can we not just have civil discussions and agree upon things that are beyond obvious? Idk but this board has gone to hell.

Chill out man. I didn't attack you but just think Kam is a nice bench guy but not good enough to be a starter or change things much except on defense.

I know. And I didn’t take anything personally at all. I just let you see what happened in that interaction. That’s all.

I catch a whole lot too. More of it because of someone not taking the time to understand the point than anything. It’s actually why I just started wearing the monikers for people. They call me a Pope pumper so I just start wearing the t-shirt, even though I’m anything but a Pope pumper. I’m more like a reasonable objector to the “Pope needs fired right now” crowd. I’m still not even sure if I think Pope necessarily “deserves” a third year, but that kind of nuance gets lost in the “he’s wearing the yellow shirt and not a green one” type of engagements.

having chandler and moreno as starters next year who are to be counted on being major contributors is a scary proposition.
Especially if Pope continues to try and pound square pegs into round holes. Pope’s insistence of putting a big up top who presents zero threat from there simply stifles the lane for the cuts and passing that he wants. Just watch the difference in how Pope’s bigs operated from Florida’s bigs both on offense and defense. The difference is astounding.

My friend, you've been around long enough to know it was like this at the end of the Cal, BCG, and Tubby years as well.

Bad coaching and or poor seasons always lead to division within the fan base. It will always be that way just like winning will always unite us.

The onus is on Pope to bring this fan base together.

He’s really easy to defend, especially since we really only have a couple of scorers to cover. I haven’t see Mark run anything to get him looks either. I didn’t watch yesterday, so maybe they did?
And he won’t drive the ball. He’s one dimensional. If you just stay home on him he’s guardable.

He avoids contact even more than Toppin did.

OK, drive and pull up from 5-8’. Anything to make the defender back up.

Again, another example of a player not being coached.

He doesn’t have a good handle so why aren’t we using off ball screens for him?

We have far better players than they are being used.

Correct this board has gone to crap. We live in an instant gratification society unfortunately. We also live in a society were others love to cast blame, judge and just *****.

There is no coach in America that would not be salivating at the prospect of bringing back a freshmam Moreno or a sophomore Chandler.

I swear some of you are not UK fans at all. Just here to ***** and sow division. Some of our most critical players of all time werent that great until their junior or senior years that helped us win a title.

Some of the best teams every year have seasoned veteran players. Nobody is happy wit the way this season has gone but quit tearing down our players.

Maybe Chandler as the 6th. Moreno needs to get stronger and be better around the rim. Need a couple of studs at the 2,3, and 4 spots IMO.

I cant give Lowe a honest eval given he barely played and he had a bum shoulder when he did. If we had a few studs he would probably be fine for us. Even hurt he consistently beat his guy.

Just a roster that did not mesh due to many factors. Even when healthy. Chandler should be coming off multiple screens. But we have to ISO Oweh and Aberdeen so he’s left standing in a spot. Lowe was a ball dominant PG. Not what Popes offense calls for. Jelavic is flawed and seems to not care much for his teammates and has checked out. Moreno is smart and solid but he’s a freshman. Jasper doesn’t take basketball seriously. Mo should be grabbing offensive boards and playing D. That’s it. Garrison has zero basketball IQ. JQ’s dad decided he shouldn’t play. Even Noah could be more effective if with the right guys. And all these guys seem to just not really like playing with each other. It happens. Pope has to take all of this into account when constructing next years roster. Or it will be his last year here.

Losing Williams hurt because he was just getting comfortable and he has NBA size and athleticism.
