The common sense says everything beyond 16 is stupid. Oh i want to see a 1 seed play a 24 in the 1st round and win by 50

17 game season too

Haven’t really looked at the count but there would likely be byes and at 24 most likely the elimination of the conf champ games that will likely be made up for by additional playoff money.

At 16, not as sure that the conf champ games will be eliminated. 16 team playoff could also have byes but the long layoff argument might change that outlook.

Formats and numbers aren’t set in stone and anything can change. We’ve only had 12 for 2 years and additional tweaks are being made as they learn things.

So then fix the ranking process.
That has nothing do with the format.

It’s not the “process”. It is a ranking system that involves people, who tend to overvalue brands they are familiar over better performance on the field by lesser known entities.

Notre Dame was a preseason top ten team and lost their first two games, yet stayed in the top 25 and started working their way back up the rankings.

An “upstart” team that lost its first two games and had a remaining schedule as week as Notre Dame’s likely has to get to 5-2 or 6-2 before they even hit the “Also receiving votes” list.
