He is Number 80 I believe. On the roster I had (from the Fischer for Senate folks) he was listed as #15, same number as Raiola. I don't know if he was listed as 15 in the game program. But if he really is assigned #15, that means he can never be on the field at the same time as Raiola (two guys wearing the same number not allowed on the field at the same time). That would mean that he'll never get any meaningful snaps, as of course Raiola will always be in the game when it's still in doubt. Did anyone else notice this?

Lets hope he doesn’t search out Deion this SaturdayGiven that he played a lot last year as a true freshman, it can’t be a positive as the season starts to say we are going to redshirt him unless something comes up. I have heard the rumblings about motivation and focus, and this news seems to line up. He could transfer, quit football, or work hard to develop. Hope it’s the latter.
Right now Banks, Neyor, Bonner, Barney, Lloyd and Bullock seem to be the guys who will occupy the majority of snaps. IGC is also available. Guys like Coleman and Carter Nelson can be four game guys and still be available if there are injuries.Given that he played a lot last year as a true freshman, it can’t be a positive as the season starts to say we are going to redshirt him unless something comes up. Could be wrong but I think Rhule mentioned Nelson likely won't redshirt.Right now Banks, Neyor, Bonner, Barney, Lloyd and Bullock seem to be the guys who will occupy the majority of snaps. So be it. Now it would be interesting to follow him around with a camera in pregame warmups to see if there is a spontaneous interaction with a member of D. Sanders entourage where a brief conversation might take place. lol.Lets hope he doesn’t search out Deion this Saturday
I’m just going by his interest in CU a couple years ago. But it’s up to him since everyone knows how to find Deion and he doesn’t have to recruit anyone they go to him.So be it. Now it would be interesting to follow him around with a camera in pregame warmups to see if there is a spontaneous interaction with a member of D. But at the end of season if he feels he’d be happier somewhere else, then he can go to wherever he feels that may be.
Never saw this coming…
…or something.
I can understand that. Perhaps this redshirt year is his chance to show what he’s willing to do in terms of practice and all the off the field things needed?Given how the kid grew up we should show some grace. I can't even imagine what he and his sister went through.
He looked like he's been hitting the weight room. Body has been built up. Maybe he just needs the mental toughness to play this game week in and week out at this level. He has all the physical tools.I can understand that. Perhaps this redshirt year is his chance to show what he’s willing to do in terms of practice and all the off the field things needed?
I think it’s more than that. Coach said he’s healthy. If so he should get playing time, so there must be more going on to make announcement that he will be redshirtingSo he's had a groin slowing down his development and he got surpassed on the depth chart and that's where we are today?
Yeah, no need to dog him at all. Football is a grind and he's gotten passed over by WRs with way more experience. It might still work out for him with us.Given how the kid grew up we should show some grace. I can't even imagine what he and his sister went through.
Agreed. He's a great story, but the work has to be put in and from the sounds of it there is concern. Hopefully he figures it out and can become a factor next year, but either way Rhule and the staff have already recruited over him and will continue to do so. I think we all want him to succeed, but I remember a lot of people saying he was a project and they were correct.Lest we forget, Coleman was a big fast kid who needed development as a receiver when he joined the team. He was pressed into service last year when NU's WR depth cratered due to injuries. He was a a threat for the long ball and was an effective blocker on the perimeter. He was then injured in spring ball, NU added to experienced WRs with speed and size in addition to a really fast freshman in Barney who knows what he is supposed to be doing. Neyor and Banks are all conference level receivers. Bonner is another big kid who can run and looks like he'll do nice work in the middle of the field. That's a nice lead receiver group. Coleman has work to do to get to that level.
OR it might just be that once again we fans might be over reacting to a young player getting passed on the depth chart by good players with way more experience.....Agreed. First Rhule didn’t say he was completely healthy ( he is not) . He said an injury wasn’t the issue of him not playing. In a perfect world Coleman would have RS last year. He couldn’t because everyone got hurt and we had to use him. With the additions at WR we can afford to develop him the way he needs.I think it’s more than that. Coach said he’s healthy. If so he should get playing time, so there must be more going on to make announcement that he will be redshirting
We are reacting to the announcement that he would be redshirted. It’s so unusual for a non-QB with playing experience and healthy to be redshirted, that I can’t think of another example. The arrival of a couple transfer WRs helps make it possible, but it doesn’t explain it. There’s something more going on.OR it might just be that once again we fans might be over reacting to a young player getting passed on the depth chart by good players with way more experience.....He's a good kid. I hope it works out for him with us but the looming reduction in roster sizes implemented by the NCAA is going to make for some tough decisions.
Couldn't agree more. Our WR's were BAD bad last year. That was probably the worst passing attack I've seen from a P5 team in the last decade.Lest we forget, Coleman was a big fast kid who needed development as a receiver when he joined the team. We’ve definitely upgraded the room. If the staff feels his body is not in a place to make the contributions it could 1-2 years out, the. Redshirting may be best for him. I would guess the staff has his and the teams best interest in mind, hopefully MC sees that as well.Couldn't agree more. Our WR's were BAD bad last year. Coleman came out of HS super raw. He had/has a ton of development to do, and in any normal situation would have redshirted last year. I see this as a good sign we have the depth to have him continue his natural course of development.
Of course, he may not see it that way and the rumblings about him not being all there mentally are concerning.
It's not an overreaction whatsoever. We all hope it works out, but a lot of people who have more insight are saying there is a good chance he is not here next year. Good kid doesn't mean the full work ethic will be there. Nebraska is stacking talent right now and he is probably on the outside looking in unless he puts his head down and really tries to progress. He should look like Neyor, but seems to be nowhere close.OR it might just be that once again we fans might be over reacting to a young player getting passed on the depth chart by good players with way more experience.....He's a good kid. Should looking like Neyer? Come on a 19-20 year old true sophomore should look like a player in his 6th yr in college. It's not an overreaction whatsoever. I'm talking about his size and ability to catch the ball and get open. There a plenty of highly rated sophomores that are insane across the country. Malachi came in as a very highly touted recruit. He hasn't shown any flash of hope at all outside of just straight-line speed and one catch of a bomb last year.Should looking like Neyer? Banks, Neyor, Bonner, Barney, Lloyd, Bullock and IGC are all guys that can line up against conference opponents. Coleman has an available RS to use and they should use it, barring injury to those seven guys.We are reacting to the announcement that he would be redshirted. The only way NU returns to marquee status as a program is to continually try to recruit over the roster you have. Neyor and Banks from the portal plus Barney balling out as a first year guy are proof that this can be done. I'm pretty sure Coleman can become a part of a WR rotation at NU, he just needs to better learn the nuts and bolts of the position. It'll all work out. Either he'll be here next year or Rhule & Co will find someone better. It's been awhile since I felt this calm about the possibility of a highly ranked recruit leaving the program. WR's will be climbing over each other to come play with DR.
I think Benard Thomas had a mid-career redshirt. Went to look at his huskers.com profile, but it's showing up blank for me.We are reacting to the announcement that he would be redshirted.
