They should all be fired. Including MJ. Bring in the Gretna or Westside Staff. Let Fred Petito corch special teams.

Is the team slow and lacking explosiveness because
-lack talent to be
-poor technique to be
-lifting and power program isn’t working/the players aren’t maxing the program
-combo of all three

the lines just haven’t shown any control of the LOS all season, either side

Fire this whole staff at the end of the season. Chins is terrible but so is Ruud and Raiola and Duval. Keep them all around for the rest of the season. Our biggest issue right now is talent. New coaches now won't fix that.

At the conclusion of this game NU will most likely be in last place in total defense in the country.
That includes all non P5 teams.
If Chinander isn't fired tomorrow morning it will signify we are phoning in the rest of the year.

It's absolutely critical that all new coaches are great recruiters. Until we start getting athletic, quick twitch guys on both sides of the LOS we're gonna struggle. Could care less how much they squat and bench. Give me big dudes that can MOVE!

Chin out soon?
Likely I think. Season can't get worse I think and he deserves it but what chaos when you're turning over your coaching staff in the middle of a season. This should have been done at the end of last season. Trev just delayed the next attempt at turning things around. 2022 is the lost season just thrown away.

Coaching, plain and simple. Teams are beating teams with lesser talent. Coaches can make brisket out of these hot dog scraps that we have on this team.

I don't know if it's doable, but maybe let Chins go and have DC-by-committee for the rest of the year?

When TV announcers remark our D isn't hiding anything that seems to be a huge problem when you have questionable talent to go along with it.

Who takes over as DC then if Chins is out?

My guess would be that Mickey brings in a retired coach for the rest of the season. But who knows. It's chaos.
I think as bad as Chins scheme has been, it may be more chaos to fire him since the expectations for the rest of the season are not high.

Just continue to get players in a position to succeed on D and hopefully win some games. Michigan may be the closest team to an Oklahoma we’ll face.

Just looked it up:

Total Defense: 124/131 total teams

Scoring Defense: 99/131

Opponent Yards/game : 129/131

Not a surprise. We stink something awful. Not sure waiting to fire Chinander is the right move. We really can't get much worse.

Some reality may be helpful.

The players love Chins and will run through brick walls for him. That is not to say he is a good coach, I have been critical since day one. IMO, firing him now would further demoralize the team. And yes, it can get worse, much worse.

These coaches know they are auditioning for a new job, even MJ. I suspect few will be around after the dust clears.

I keep going back to how Fisher was held up as being great, Chins was touted to take over for Frost and Duval was old school and finally getting these guys back to where we once were. My how opinions have changed.

We are just going to have to sit back and suck it up as this all works out and it will. But not without lots of complaining along the way.

I would normally agree, but I think this is what is clearly not happening. In fact, it’s the opposite. That’s why I would roll the dice with a change.

Look at the statistics in the post just before your post. How can it get "much worse?" Head coaches have fired defensive coordinators mid-season with better statistics than that.

At this point doing nothing is the definition of insanity, "Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result". At this point there is only one direction to go...

I agree man, not sure how it can get much worse. The players are going to be "demoralized" . I'd say that has already happened. They are getting beat play in play out. The scheme is something awful. Yes they may lack talent BUT that is what the Coach is for. He puts his team in best position to win by using the talent that he has.

You also have to factor in we have a bigger sample of work (which gave us time to average out any anomalies),… AND Venables let off the gas against us. Our true stats would be worse had he played for his playoff berth style points.

I could of seen them running up 77 on us yesterday, it was definitely within reach. Probably close to an additional 200 yards +, around 800 yds.

I'd rather just have Chins stay than defense by committee with this staff.

I said I would discuss privately with each assistant their plan to improve the defense, and whoever has the best idea gets the interim job.
I posted before, Bill Busch. He’s here on staff, he knows the strengths and weaknesses of the present players and he has valuable experience based on the defensive minds and systems that he’s worked under. He will make the necessary adjustments and have a better scheme and game plan than Chin. Check it out.
