They need to change back, obviously not to that level. However, the price tag for a job to coach 100 kids to play a sport is obsceneFound this on twitter, my how times have changed:
Ok boomerBack then making 30k meant something. Gas was probably 80c.
Biased. But best value in that list was TOFound this on twitter, my how times have changed:
I have a friend who has 3 world series rings. The most he made was 18k/year in his 12th year in the majors back in the 70s. His pension now from MLB is over 4 times that much.Back then making 30k meant something. Gas was probably 80c.
Carl Pelini would have thrived in that era.Back then those goes could also go out in public, have a beer, get dinner, dick around...and it did not get them fired.
Supply and demand is a beautiful thing. God bless capitalism. Paying a successful coach 5 mil per year is perhaps the best ROI around. They need to change back, obviously not to that level. However, the price tag for a job to coach 100 kids to play a sport is obscene
Agree, the 5 million dollar price tag today is an admittance that Scott needs to work 100 hours a week during the season and 60 in the offseason...the most uncomfortable thing about college football is these coaches "have" to be away from their families so much in order to be successful and if they have an ideology that they spend time with their families it is unacceptable as we are paying them 10x more than the governor to sacrifice for the program. If they are losing they need to appear to be sacrificing everything because the price tag is so steep.Back then those goes could also go out in public, have a beer, get dinner, dick around...and it did not get them fired.

I would agree, except TV money neutralizes everything....kind of a ‘system’ subsidySupply and demand is a beautiful thing. God bless capitalism. Paying a successful coach 5 mil per year is perhaps the best ROI around.
I'm guessing Claiborne's salary is based on one good season in 1977, which likely boosted Curci's salary and meant they needed to pay up to find a good next coach. Note they didn't win the conference title that season, Alabama went 7-0 and was crowned champions. The SEC did weird scheduling. Kentucky was on probation that season. Was Kentucky good back then?
