If you’re a mid-level program like Michigan State, Kansas or even Wisconsin I wouldn’t advise firing your coach this year. You’re going to be pretty far down the pecking order as far as options. Might as well wait another year and have your buyouts decreased.
Mel Tucker back to Mich State?

Urban Meyer is the winningest coach in college football history. The idea that he interviewed and was turned down by PSU is laughable. If he was actually interested they would have hired him.

Agreed. Meyer himself said that PSU contacted him and he replied that he no longer has any interest in coaching. Cut and dried. The rumor mill never ceases to amaze or amuse.

exactly. Urban is done coaching unless a crazy offer came along. He makes $5mil for 14 appearances on Fox with no stress. Someone that PSU did interview tho is Pat Fitz and could very likely be there next coach.

Who ever heard of Mike Elko (Texas A&M) or Curt Cignetti (Indiana) before they were hired?

Yep. Don't look past successful FCS and small major coaches. Besides those guys, who ever heard of Jim Tressel before he went to Ohio State? Who's at Miami University now? They are the "cradle of coaches."

Not to Penn State.
You never know but I don’t see Campbell leaving ISU. There’s probably very few jobs he would consider, I.e. Michigan, OSU and PSU, and just wouldn’t be a big enough name for any of those donor/fan bases to get excited about.

Never been a head coach and he reminds of someone who brown noses his way up the ladder.
I don't know if I get the same impression you do. If I was a betting man I'd bet Wallace because (a) he's the closes thing to keeping Phil Parker who will retire and (b) if we don't hire him he'll leave because he's not going to wait around 25 years for the next coaching hire.

I would be open to Wallace as head coach someday, but I would really love to hear some stories about how he's been groomed for the job for years, or about how he's taken on a leadership role beyond his assistant coaching duties. I've heard very little of these stories, other than Seth getting the AHC title and filling in for Kirk the week he served his suspension.

We’re a top 25 job. You do not hire a guy who has never been a head coach.

Oklahoma promoted Riley from OC to HC with no HC experience.
Marcus Freeman went from DC to HC at Notre Dame.
Dan Lanning went from DC at Georgia to HC at Oregon.
Steve Sarkisian went from OC at USC to HC at Washington
Bob Stoops is another great example. Florida DC to Oklahoma HC

Those are some pretty big programs.

I'm ok with him leaving. There are other coaches out there.

All 100% better than Seth Wallace.

I always like seeing the Campbell suggestions because the clone fans get all squeamish. Every time.

Nobody has said that he's the only option but there are people on here that think he's God and deserves the job.
I don't know about thinking he's "god" but being named associate HC makes ya think he's in line for it. Personally, I don't see it. I'm guessing they like the idea of Wallace as a way of preserving some of the programs culture. (avoiding a Fickell)

My comment was about the broader idea that as a TOP 25 program we can't hire a guy with no HC experience. We almost did it last time with Stoops.

Wallace being named as associate head coach goes back to my brown nosing comment. Iowa's head football coaching job can surely hire somebody that's a ton better than Wallace.
