For Huss's sake, I hope McDermott retires within a couple years. I remember Mike Hopkins was coach-in-waiting at Syracuse for about 10 years. He got tired of waiting for Boeheim to hang 'em up, so he left to take the Washington job.
If McDermott doesn't retire after the 2025-26 season, all bets should be off and Huss needs to put himself out there for major program openings. Going back only if he doesn't get an offer he wants.
Hopkins is a perfect example of how being a head coach in waiting could wind being a long term involvement and the only way to become the HC is find a program willing to make you their HC
Huss should have been promised McDermott would only coach one more year and then the job would be his.
If he didn't get that promise he shroud have stayed where he was at.
This might be a case of Huss not getting the type of interest he was expecting from major programs looking for a HC and he thinks Creighton gave him the next best opportunity to advance his career .
