Another example of when I say things like it's in their blood and that there are only 65 P5 jobs around and yes you can find coaches with potential for these jobs. It doesn't mean Moorhead will be successful but his background is one that has potential to maybe do some things. Basically, response to well who the the heck would want to go to so and so school, including RU, which some of our own fans think as well. Never a guarantee but always can get guys with some potential to be good.
Maybe he wanted to be closer to home. Puts him 2 hours from Pittsburgh. But, he was getting $900K as OC at Oregon, and quick search showed Akron paid last HC about $500K. That's a big pay cut if that is what he is getting.

He’s a great recruiter but his squad he coached left a lot to be desired
Recruiters promoted up to be HCs are more of thing these days. The Arkansas coach, Memphis coach, South Carolina coach and just recently the Texas Tech coach who was LBs coach at Baylor but a former well known Texas high school coach. So I wouldn't brush it off, anything is possible.

I seem to be throwing out Mullen for lower profile jobs, first Duke now I even wonder about Temple. No idea if there's any interest from him or them but these seem like places that could suit him. Last UF coach went to Central Michigan so who knows.

Don't know what Akron is paying but like I said "it's in their blood" and the opportunity to be the HC might worth the pay cut if there is one.

I'm sure some here will be on Fran Brown watch now.

A thrown Rod?

Never saw the attraction.
NIU records:
2010: Jerry Kill 10-3
2011-12: Doeren 11-3; 12-1
Rod Carey Takes over:
2013: 12-2
2014: 11-3
2015: 8-6
2016: 5-7
2017: 8-5
2018: 8-6

He took a perennial winner to mediocrity.
It got worse at Temple. He took a team that was 8-4 in the previous year, to 8-5, then 3-7 then 1-6, then 3-9/1-7

I never liked him as choice myself and I think Temple can an attractive spot for somebody to rejuvenate or spring board their career. Golden and Rhule went on to bigger things from there so I think it can be attractive to someone.

EDIT: Forgot Addazio and Collins also to BC and GT respectively from Temple

Yea read about him coaching there prior, didn't know about wanting to come back east. Still though it's an opportunity to be a HC and there are only so many openings.
He was actually making more money:

"Moorhead is earning $1.15 million in the first year of a two-year contract signed last March and has earned $25,000 in performance bonuses, with $30,000 more possible if Oregon wins the Pac-12 championship and plays in a New Year’s Six Bowl game. His buyout of 25%, or approximately $287,500, is waived if Moorhead becomes an FBS head coach."

Interesting tidbits when he was fired from Miss. State:

"Moorhead lasted just 26 games in Starkville. He finished with a 14-12 record. His team’s bowl loss guaranteed just State’s second losing season since 2009, Dan Mullen’s first year as coach. On-field performance wasn’t the only factor here. There were disciplinary problems within the team that boiled over publicly into a fight during one bowl practice, for instance. Moorhead is a Pennsylvania native who spent most of his career coaching in the northeast, a somewhat peculiar fit in the Deep South."

Wonder if Miss. State will try to stiff him the difference, like Arkansas allegedly did with Bielema:

"Moorhead’s buyout is about $7 million, a source said, but that can be mitigated to as little as $4 million through off-set language in his contract, assuming the coach finds other employment."

They wanted him out because he wasn’t a southerner. Fight was just an excuse.

I don’t think he’s ready either on or off the field to be a HC. Temple also can’t swing and miss. They need a proven head coach. Should have went after Moorehead
Personally, I agree with you but these recruiting guru type coaches do get hired like the examples I gave above.

I have no clue about the realism but I'd see if a Mullen has any interest. He's from northeast, it's a lower profile job but can be a career rejuvenator as well. It's something that could be mutually beneficial and as a bonus for Temple, partially on Florida's dime. Malzahn is at UCF, McElwain at CMU so you never know unless you ask.

Wonder if Duke might be able snag a coach like Mullen. Sort of like the Miss State of the ACC. Lower profile and expectations might be better for him.
That probably would be a good move for both.

Now the conspiracy theorist in me is wondering????
Is it really just a trip top Miami to see his mother, or is a backdoor meeting with the U's AD realy the resewn Oregon's Super Mario headed to Florida a little after his Ducks beat the Oregon State Beavers in their rivalry game. and flew right back
His mom is sick, so I could be wrong about secret meet with U's AD while Mario was in town.

Feldman must be eaves dropping on me. Article is paywall but he brings up Mullen as a possible candidate for Temple too, among others. Stan Drayton, Elijah Robinson, Fran Brown, Mike Hart, Chris Partridge, Bob Surace

NFL assistant was also mentioned as a possibility for Mullen

Rumors LSU going after Brian Kelly. “Big splash” LSU AD after having Riley snatched from him trying for another? You know Fickell will be on speed dial at ND if there’s any truth to the rumor and Kelly does leave.

More to that rumor now…sounds like he wants to stay at ND and could be using it for leverage to get more facilities improvements at ND but not sure the admin will go along. He’s already rebuffed LSU early in their search but the LSU AD doesn’t like to take no for an answer.
I’m guessing especially after letting Riley get away.

I don’t think Fickell would leave in a playoff run and maybe ND waits at least through the weekend and see how it shakes out.

They could switch coaches possibly. Fickell to ND and Freeman, ND DC and former Cincy DC under Fickell could go back to Cincy as HC.
