I read where alot of fans want to swing for the fences on these hires. Maybe it will work, I hope so. The problem is this isnt a job people are going to be kicking doors down to take. We are a 3-9 team with a coach on a 6 game hot seat. I would not be surprised if they dont hire young up and comers. Why in hell would Garrison or Joseph leave the jobs they have now if they can stay to come here if the chance its a one year job.

No Sh_t Sherlock, this is what i've been saying since Trev screwed up and retained Frost. We just dug ourselves an even deeper whole the next coach has to get out of. What a dumpster fire.

If they would have ditched Frost mid-season like the rest of the country thought we should have we could have gotten a coach for far less than it's gone cost us next year.
That $7 mil we "saved" isn't gone balance out well on a $80 mil contract...

Isnt Joseph basically unemployed right now? I mean, he has a bowl game to coach, but his HC was fired a while ago.

So you think we could have gotten a better deal on a head coach before the season was over? LOL. Nobody high on your list was taking our job with the LSU, Florida, and USC jobs dangling out there. We would have still been waiting for a coaching decision after the Iowa game and it likely would have ended up being a guy like DeBoer. Hell Herman and O'Brien are still out there too. Something tells me they would have signed on for what Frost is making now. I don't think the insane contracts some guys are getting now would have affected what it would have taken to get a guy willing to come to NU in the first place.

I don’t get this argument. All assistants are on two year contracts. Even if I were to be fired after year one, I sure wouldn’t mind getting paid a full year to not have to work.
Two years is a standard across the landscape so their risk is the same regardless of where they go.

No. Still employed and recruiting for LSU. They have a bowl game to prepare for
It would be nice if we could get him officially on board so maybe we could poach some of LSU's recruits. Sigh. At least if we get him committed publicly before signing day even if he isn't physically here we can tell recruits this is who your WR coach is going to be and these are the guys he coached that are in the NFL right now.

All I know is it’s Friday and we STILL have no coaches hired. With early recruiting winding down and having no offensive staff in place, makes it a mess....

It would be nice to get him at least committed publicly before signing day so we can tell recruits this is who your WR coach is going to be and this is who he has put in the NFL. It's probably more important to get the OC and QB coach on board so we can add to our QB room. I don't think it is as easy to find quality QBs in the portal as it is quality WRs. I think we're going to need some immediate help from transfers at QB and maybe OT. I hope our new OC brings a transfer QB with him. IF I'm Frost, the prospect of my job being in the hands of Smothers and Haarberg doesn't give me a lot of confidence.

Well the recruiting class were sold on Nebraska and not the their coach's personality. So far the guys we have committed seem to still be committed to Nebraska. That's a good thing probably. I think the transfer portal is going to be huge for us with a new OC coming in. There's still a chance we name that guy and some high school recruits follow him or one of the other new assistants. I think this will be wrapped up by next week. IF the new OC is Morris there's a good chance his QB son transfers from TCU. He's started some games there and some TCU fans think he should be the starter. Morris would open up a bunch of doors in Texas high schools.

I'm actually WAY more encouraged about this deal than I was a week and a half ago. I think there's more legit options out there than I thought there would be.

The hay is pretty well in the barn on the early class signing. There's going to be a BUNCH of high quality recruits still available for the late signing day and the portal numbers just keep getting bigger with the high profile coaching moves. Then there will be more movement after spring football. What a wild ride.

In saying Sunday, I'm just assuming that its all worked out and they can't do anything until then for reasons that might include Saturday's games. But if the hires are still unknown and they're still scrambling around - it looks like more typical incompetent Nebraska stuff.

Well one quality OC just became available due to his boss resigning. At least two former P5 head coaches might have thought they were going to get offers to coach at Florida, LSU or USC. They might be willing to look at Nebraska's OC job over taking a G5 job. Hell Mullen is out there. Notre Dame closed one hole by promoting their DC. Virginia is now open. OU is still open and if they hire Heupel then Tennessee is open. There was more smoke yesterday that despite some hard feelings there that some boosters at OU want Heupel. There's just so many moving parts to this deal that we need to be patient.

It was an easy, and safe decision for Trev Alberts since it avoided having to fire a Nebraska legend.

Well I don't sell Nebraska as COMPLETELY being an afterthought like others. I think b4 this year we were seen as relevant in terms of big market programs (Top 10-15).

Other coaches plus media knew we had talent these last few years and if it wasn't for piss poor coaching, scheming and development our win loss record could have been flipped around.

The problem now with waiting and gambling is that if it doesn't work out next year our roster will be so depleted. It will be littered with 1-3 stars, walk ons and dudes who would be better wrestling bears and ice fishing that most coaches wouldn't touch it.

We have had the best talent in the big west on paper since kid Frost got here! It's plenty people on here giving warnings on here. We have seen how this works out with other programs..

Odd thing to post the day after we find out we landed Mickey Joseph.
Hey, I said I was waiting until Sunday but I'd be willing to stretch that to Monday. If Sunday/Monday passes and we don't have an OC I'm calling it a **** show and I don't care if we landed Mickey Rooney.

We dig ourselves into a deeper hole if we miss on the next hire. Keeping Frost was the smart choice for now.

That wouldn't be all bad. Dude has prior experience and I've seen this throwing motion before:
