Where would OSU FB be without Greg?
I don't know, all I know is our offense was *** last night and that defense saved us. Look at last year against Clemson, the offense couldn't do anything. The defense played well, the offense put them in a ****** situation all night against Clemson. Honestly come to think of it the OSU offense hasn't been the same basically since Tom Herman left, but every year the defense has been championship caliber. Honestly I love schiano, I loved him at Rutgers, and I love him at OSU. I thank God for those vols fans being morons, because we get to have Schiano a little longer.

Westerman? Solid. Foster and Meekins were In 2006. Two years a this kids. Then the DL was a week spot year after year. And I think Schiano is a good coach. And yes. he should have gotten the Tenn job but his weakest area by far is DL coaching and recruiting. He put a lot of DBs in the NFL. DL. One guy. Hes also the same moron who decided 230 punt DTs were a good idea. Please. Vallone who was a good tackle was forced to play out position as the nose at 270. Someone now he's the reason Ohio St is great. This place is full of morons. Tennessee isn't the only clueless fan base.
Off the top of my head, Foster, Freeny, Westerman, Gary Gibson, Ryan Neil, J'Vonne Parker and George Johnson all play(ed) multiple years in the NFL. Also, Alex Silvestro and Justin Francis both had at least one season in the NFL. It is possible he put more of his DL in the NFL than DBs.

People have said that. They're wrong, and they're idiots, but it has been said.
I don't recall it. A number of us don't think he's shown himself to be a great head coach to date. But he's clearly shown evidence of being a very good defensive coordinator. And he's unarguably a good program builder, based on what he did here at RU.

don't know the answer to that, but ask yourself what would have happened if Mulcahy didn't hire him.
So far the hires after him haven't done much to prove Mulcahy could have done better.
But it's too soon to count Ash out yet.

Also OSU being ranked 9th best in total defense isn't to shabby, considering their schedule.
But can't say another DC couldn't have had a #5 ranking in 2016 and #9 in 2017 and maybe even better.
Greg is a pretty good DC

He did finish #12 with recruiting classes that averaged in the 40’s. It’s not arguable if he’s a good program builder because he did what everyone else said is impossible here and it fell apart when he left. What could be arguable if he is a great Head Coach because he only had that one great season and did not do well at Tampa. I’m and Ash supporter but we should all be thanking Schiano not dissing him. Everyone outside of this board across the country talks about him as a guy who did a great job here. So do I.

Fellas USC isn't what you're making them out to be they're above average & not back yet from the sanctions imo....Darnold is vastly OVERRATED!
Agree about USC and Darnold over rated and Josh Rosen is much more pro ready but concussion issues concern me with Lamar Jackson my 2nd choice...Lamar reminds me of a Cam Newton future potential as all around athlete...the whole P12 was mediocre a la ACC !!

I also think he did a great job here. But I also thought he had peaked here. Which isn't to say that he won't be able to surpass that peak if/when he gets a head-coaching job elsewhere. His exposure to how things work at OSU will surely benefit him.

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to see someone do better than GS here to believe it is at all possible.

IMO, university, and perhaps fan base, commitment is more important than who the coaches are. I think if the school decides to get serious, then the only other hurdle is location.

Regionally speaking, RU has a situation where sports fans have a lot of different choices. Unlike the regional situations for other schools where the local college programs are the only game in town. This is not a unique situation. But it’s a challenge for us.

So I think school commitment is the #1 requirement. And then we need some luck. We need a couple seasons where things just happen to fall our way. Running a clean program can help. We cannot survive more situations like what occurred under Flood.

But we also need to get a couple seasons where key players don’t get injured. Because we lack depth and we need to win to build depth. Not exactly a catch 22, but something close to it.

It would help if some Big Ten schools have off years. The right combination of good luck in the schedule and good luck in the locker room, plus maybe some good luck in recruiting and we can get over the hump and build some momentum.

I think Ash is doing the right things. He’s a young coach, but is obviously learning from his mistakes. And learning quickly, from what I can see. But he’s doing the same sorts of things any competent program leader would do.

I, like you, need to see what happens. I’m neither optimistic nor pessimistic. Just hopeful. But logically, I believe RU can become a force in football. Just need some luck, some patience, and a lot of hard work.

Happy New Year and there are actually Rutgers fans that legitimately don't appreciate what Schiano did with your program? That is amazing. Unbelievable actually. Maybe pissed off at him for leaving but what he did was a borderline miracle.

After the game Meyer, at least twice, gave the credit to the Defensive Line coach. Said he is the best in the country. Schiano's name wasn't mentioned.
I do wonder why Meyer did that. I'd imagine Meyer is a very calculated person.. I'd surmise the following:

1) the DL coach deserves credit
2) Meyer wants to hold onto that coach
3) OSU's DL is going to lose people to the NFL
4) Meyer needs to recruit top top level replacements
5) Tell the world that if you are top FL talent.. you need to go get coached by the best DL coach in the nation at OSU

Meyer has given Schiano plenty of credit plenty of times.

Great job by Greg. Obviously he has a very good and talented group of players to work with and he gets them ready to play. Needless to say Urban Meyer sees and knows that too. Nice win for the B1G. 5-0 so far in bowl games this year.
Agree with what you say. That's why that Iowa disaster has me puzzled as in "what happened ?"

I don't think he peaked: I think what happened to EL burned him out.

Lots of turnovers by the O.. probably JT Barrett's worst game ever. 4 INTs. Bosa was ejected for targeting with OSU in the lead... 1st half. Iowa had about 440 yards of offense, OSU 340.. it was just a WTF game.. like Clemson's loss to Syracuse. The INTs made the scoreboard look worse than it was.

I looked up the box to remind me.. I had forgotten about that Bosa ejection.. that might also help explain the praise heaped on the DL coach re: my theory of recruiting DL. With Bosa out, the Iowa OL did really well.. 250 rushing yards or so. Maybe OSU's DL depth is not what they thought it was and they need to rebuild that.
