I don't think anyone is really happy about the last few years. The question is if making a change is the right decision at the moment. Even if you think Cal is 100% the guy for the next ten years, you're not happy with the results recently.

After winning 9 games I thought he had three seasons to put UK in a position to win a title. He hasn’t come close to winning anything the last two seasons, so next year is title or bust.

It would be nice to have a choice that says “not happy at all but we are stuck with Cal because he is not going anywhere anytime soon”

I've wanted him gone yesterday, but at the same time I'm curious to see if he can roll back the clock with next years class and work some magic.

I’ll let you know when Texas names their permanent HC, because it gives JVC a chance to save face and leave on his own.

Needed a 4th option. Never wanted him for our coach in the first place. Said it would be fools gold.

I am not happy with the results over the last 3 years. I think Cal has another year or two before he decides to hang it up.
I am fine with that. If our future NCAA record is impressive, I am fine if he decides to stay longer.

Nope. Not happy. Can't answer "I'll give him one more year" because he's got that year regardless of what I want or think.

Even if he wins it all next year, I think he needs to go. It's time for a change.

Want him gone now. We have seen this before. Next season... Team won't gel, Cal can't find the lineup, Non aggressive offense, less with more...AGAIN. Can Barnhart as well. Yes, we'll be down a couple of years with a new coach (maybe not, depending on who that is).

"I'll give him one more year.." It amazes me to think that you people have any say in the matter whatsoever. He will be here until Mitch grows a pair. The lifetime contract was the STUPIDEST idea ever.

I have said in the past he deserved this season to right the ship. He didn’t do it. I’m good with a change. I know he’s here next season, so I will still have the expectation of winning.

But what I think will happen next season - 10 loss regular season at best, injuries that linger forever, smart *** mouth, talking down to the fans, arrogance without merit, weird distractions that will never be addressed, early exit in SEC tourney, second round loss to a team we should beat but someone goes cold.

This script has been written too many times over the last 6 years. This is who Cal is now. Forget the past. This is the now. Cal created the mess, and now he’s living it.

Next season is his last. I firmly believe this. I truly believe that Cal believes he can win it all next season with what he has coming in. I don’t think it will be even remotely possible. These fresh aren’t as good as some think. We won’t gel, lineups will be disastrous, no shooting, no real presence in the paint. We’ll see two bigs clogging the lane, poor passing, lazy play, turnovers galore, pouting and refusing to play through minor injuries.

Media will be questioning Cal at every turn. He will become even more defensive. Players will be seriously distracted, confused, and constant melt down mode in any close game.

Opposing coaches will game plan Cal to death. Opposing players will flex and show boat us repeatedly. Matt Jones will say things like “we know somethings we can’t discuss,” fans will say we should have kept certain players, they had no business leaving. We will be two players short of a full rotation. Cal will play his favorites to the detriment of the team.

Come on everyone, wake up.

91% say you stank mofo.
Take a bath Coach Cal. Scrub hard because the stench of losing is STRONG.

What can be done after next March? I keep hearing about lifetime contract. Do you really think Barney would do anything good?
The buyout lowers each year and there’s a provision in the contract that allows Cal to move into an administrative role after July 1, 2024.

Nothing other than a buyout.

My position is if you are going to have to buy Cal out to get rid of him, why wait??
F that #1 class. We all know what that is going to look like in Nov, Dec, Jan and half of Feb, hoping they can put it together by late February.

Pull the plug. Now.

Let's get on with rebuilding the program with the right coach.

Cal will be 65. And a buy out could be negotiated. Cal has a said he wanted to coach until he could coach DJ. Win or lose. Cal is done next March.

40 million as opposed to anywhere between 20-25 million.

Which could easily be negotiated down to 15.

So could the $40M be negotiated down, right???

I believe Cal would go given the right amount if dollars to leave. I just can't of ANY GOOD REASON to not make that move sooner rather than later.

Would you as Cal, negotiate 40 million down when you have the Number 1 class?

At 64 years old and burnt out....definitely.

How much money is enough?

Cal is trading days for dollars right now.

One of those things is limited. The other one Cal has more than he or his family will ever need in their lifetimes.

Just depends on which of those things Cal values more....his time left on this earth....or his money.

I know what I would do....

Not happy but can accept him for one more year, mainly because we already know there’s a 0% chance he’s not here next year so there’s no point to consider that, but also because even if he was fired it would be a rebuilding year anyways regardless of who was hired. I’m fine with pushing it back one more year to see if we can make one last run before we part ways
