I think Duc will start in the Cliff role of banging early until Myles comes in to aggressively impose his will on the other team with less concern of picking up early fouls. If Duc becomes a liability then I would not hesitate to use Reiber at the 5 spot to spell Myles.

Keep in mind, Ohio State is small upfront. Duc can throw his weight around as long as he doesn't foul. Liddell is the biggest threat to getting him into foul trouble. The only problem is Duc is not a shot-blocker, and that may give Ohio State team confidence to attack the basket. Otherwise, Rutgers has the advantage across the board.

Isn’t Lidell still out with illness? If so, that’s a massive break. He’s their best player

Harper may slide to the 5 a few minutes a game if needed. Hope he doesn't wear down as a result. $$$$

I feel we will be fine against OSU. Size isn't a big factor.
Glad to hear this (I haven't seen OSU play yet this year) but depth will be a huge concern in this game nevertheless. They have an extra day of rest and don't have to travel. This feels like a classic "trap" game to me; if we are able to win I will be even more bullish on this team. Go RU!

I would not actually think this is an issue.....injuries actually create more depth than anything else, it forces coaches to play kids more and the faster they learn on the job, the better.

If Cliff misses a couple of weeks and Reiber, Douc struggle in their minutes, the more they play, the more they'll get into the flow and get better.

We ran an experiment for every Pike season since he's been here, with playing kids way over their heads and now all of a sudden, one to 3 players asked to play and fill in for a few games is an issue??

I would personally start Myles or Douc and bring Geo off the bench....and I would find minutes for Palmquist as well to spell Harper and Myles as well.

Or go small and make teams chase us off the 3 point line, drive and kick and see what happens with Palmquist at the 5....if he gets his nose bloodied underneath the basket, welcome to the B1G young man.....!!!

Zed Key may be an issue inside. Not tall for a center but strong especially lower body. He is crafty too. Good looking freshman from NY.

Mr Doucoure,
Defend and rebound, defend and rebound. Do not dribble. Do not attempt a pass longer than 10 feet. Do not even consider shooting unless you are wide open under the basket. Finally, defend and rebound.
I’m ok with him taking a wide open jump shot. What he needs to do is not hesitate and as you said, avoid dribbling if possible. If he puts it on the floor it needs to be a decisive move. Where he can hurt us most is turnovers, bad passes or those spots where the defense swarms him as he takes too long to decide what to do.

Pike is very much like Coach K where he doesn’t give a true timeframe and then the player is back much sooner than you think. Don’t be surprised if Cliff is full go on the 29th.

I'm not. There are 4 better options on the floor.

Reiber over Duke unless you have a big meaty center who Reiber can't handle. Also go small ball some minutes. With Cliff out, now is the time to try against OSU who isn't tall.

Week to week like Geo with his high ankle. Probably looking at 2-4 weeks.

If it’s a grade 1 sprain, he could be back for Iowa but if it’s borderline I wouldn’t risk it.

Yea... have you seen Kofi? Lol

@Scangg, I’m confused. I was just Responding to gfr who said first time Pike used a third center he opted for Reiber. That was against Syracuse where he definitely showed he Is not ready to play against this level of opponent. Maryland Pike opted for Duke. Didn’t play many minutes but he was the third center.

Pike definitely has a dilemma if Myles gets in foul trouble vs OSU.

More worried about what no Cliff means for the Iowa game. Having no big man depth against Garza spells a nightmare

Fair enough, might be getting ahead of myself a bit. Just don’t like the wording “indefinitely,” though I suppose Cliff could be back by then
Indefinitely just means they don’t know because they have to see how the knee responds to treatment . Hopefully he can be back by then

Even if Cliff was 100%, Garza would have his way with him. Cliff's not the elite defender some here made him out to be. Pencil Garza in for 30+. We're just going to have to keep up in the scoring column, and hope their shooting is a little frigid.

While Myles is AWESOME at blocking shots, let's not forget they called Montez "suction cup" for his block the other night....and....since Jacob blocked the seven footer last season I don't see us having a lack of athleticism to garner that kind of confidence from OSU...heck, even Paul tied up Kofi TWICE.

I think we'll be fine. And hey, didn't Reiber have a pretty good swat in non-conference?

Jerry Carino reports multiple games for Cliff and another week for Mag.
Duke is all we have, I don’t think Oscar is ready.
Going to be a lot of minutes for our top 6 players
Oscar will play. Reiber or Duke will get 10 minutes between them. Our starting core and either Paul and Geo are plenty good.
