And Dean isn’t bad at the 4 either. Both still have three years eligibility after this year. Assuming both are happy here, we might be set at the 5 position for a while.
If we actually got decent size in the portal I could see both Reiber and Cliff startinfI like that we saw a few minutes with them both on the floor. I think that’s going to have to be a bigger part of the offense next year.
This is why you root for college sports - to see guys develop and build a nice college career. It’s becoming a lost art these days, but you still get to see it sometimes.Dean has quickly become so much more than just a guy who can give Cliff a 2-minute breather. He’s a legit contributor on offense now and an improving defender. They will definitely see more time on the floor together.
My only issue I had was when Dean was playing on the wing in the 2-3 he kept sinking in to the paint leaving the shooter open. That may be because he's used to playing the 5 but I'd rather let the guy in the paint beat cliff than leave a wide open shooterI like that we saw a few minutes with them both on the floor. That’s a good observation. Was he asked to do that as part of the game plan? Don’t know. If not and it’s just a bad tendency, very coachable with film study and practice. My only issue I had was when Dean was playing on the wing in the 2-3 he kept sinking in to the paint leaving the shooter open. They kept yelling at him to stick with the shooter but he kept sinking in. Agree it is easy to coach thoughThat’s a good observation. Was he asked to do that as part of the game plan? Don’t know. If not and it’s just a bad tendency, very coachable with film study and practice.
Before we get to next year , let’s enjoy this year. The Northwestern game was the first game , that I felt there would be no drop off when Cliff would be subbed out for Dean. Now I understand why Pike could not play them together in case Cliff gets in foul trouble , but in the second Half of NW Cliff wasn’t in foul trouble and there was only 10 minutes left and he could have left Dean in when Cliff came back in instead of Oscar , for even more length and quickness and shot blocking in in the zone. He chose not but did it a little yesterday and with Dean’s play even as a stretch 4 , for a few minutes , hopefully we see them together for some key portions of games depending on the situation.I like that we saw a few minutes with them both on the floor.
