And based on what Clemson's done in their two road games this year it's tough to get a read, but it isn't giving me the warm and fuzzies. They beat Temple 75-48 and lost to WV 66-59, which are both respectable showings. I was expecting the line to be Clemson -45, but that's just the product of me not digging deep enough into the data.

If we can take of business with Clemson, Illinois doesn’t look so invincible anymore. That would make this a good week.

If we beat Illinois at their place, that might rank as one of the bigger upsets of the
season so far

Kofi still just backs in and forces his way to the basket. He draws so many fouls. It is ridiculous. Cliff must be extremely smart on Friday.

Clemson fan here-we are better than I anticipated we would be with the loss of Aamir Simms. This season so far we have shot the ball very well and like most of Brownell’s team play good defense.

We like to play Dawes and Honor at guard at the same time who are both short which allows bigger guards to post us up. PJ Hall is our best post player but you can hurt us on the boards inside.

Lost to St Bonaventure by 3 and blew a 16 point lead as they shot 10-12 from behind the arc in the second half and we then blew a 10 point lead to WVU. We had several kids with the flu and both games played in Charleston, SC. Tonight will be our first true road game.

We could do some damage in the ACC as the conference looks down again which would be nice considering how football was a disaster for us this year.

I wish our football disaster seasons ended at 9-3!

Ah, blown leads. At least we have something in common.

Do you play any zone?
My guess is no

The fact that you shoot the ball very well from 3 is a big problem for us. We don’t defend the perimeter well, and when we do get near someone taking a 3 we foul a lot. On the flip side we are one of the worst shooting teams you will encounter all year, so if we are to win we will have to go inside, finish, draw fouls and rebound. So far this season we’ve done none of those things well, so this is going to be a tough game for us.

Money coming in on Clemson now Clemson - 1
Rutgers -1 now. I am not one who believe point shaving or other illegal activity is that prevalent. Having said that, how can they put out a line without really knowing the health of Ron Harper.

Are there any rules against anyone within the program releasing information (without getting paid) that would have an impact on the potential result. I know knights1212 has said he has attended practices. I'd think that might give one an edge in a situation like ours.

Ron at 50%, 100% or 0% is definitely a game changer.

yeah i watched this line today because i bet it, it bounced back and forth. will hurt some to lose but will be happy either way.
they go with news they have, they have to put a line out, lots of guys not 100% all over. but you are right, you would think Clemson money would come in if Geo out and Harper news is concrete that not playing anywhere near 100%. i think in general Rutgers has good at home ATS record past few years so big money hesitant to play Clemson in their first road game and found ways to lose cple games they shouldn't have lost.

Why are we playing a home game at 9 pm..?
It's part of the B1G/ACC tourney, so somebody's gotta go in the later time-slots. Indy-Cuse and Minnesota-Pitt are both at 7:00, Florida State-Purdue is at 7:30, Northwestern-Wake is at 9:00. Iowa-Virginia was yesterday, as was Illinois and IIRC BC. I just hope we represent ourselves and the conference well by winning.

The opening line is basically just Kenpom (or similar internal model) + some adjustments. For college basketball there are so many games there may not have been any adjustment for Harper at all, or if there was they just assign some probability like 50% and go with it.

The books that actually set the spreads will open with low limits and raise them later after taking some action, so it’s not really important to get the opening line exactly right. As long that they aren’t consistently making large mistakes they will be fine.
