Good gosh this is starting to make it seem as if football doesn’t have a prayer of opening on time this Fall. Hope I’m wrong

28 Athletes and Staff from the Athletic Department... not necessarily all Football...
Also, if we are waiting on a Vaccine, there will not be Football for decades.

True and that is one way to look at it. But many of the Presidents and AD's will fold if several schools test this way.

28 = 11 offense, 11 defense, 1 kicker, 1 punter, and 4 backups. Clemson is good to go for a full season**

It’s June, over a month until the start of camp and two and a half months until the season. No reason to make any hasty decisions.

Other teams will be afraid to block or tackle them, so they're good for 15-0. **

Phillies, blue jays, and giants all shut down spring training facilities today. I really wanna watch football and baseball this year, but I think it's a long shot.

and ... you do realize someone under 35 is more likely to be killed by lightening than Covid, right?

It's bad for old and infirmed, it should have less effect on college players than jock itch.

But jock itch never shut down the world. This did and it doesn’t show signs of lighting up.

Provided there is such a thing with this virus. There are signs it may not exist.
Yeah, signs like 0 of 5 million people confirmed to be infected twice...

Nevermind the fact that the same mechanism is what a potential vaccine would use to eradicate this thing.

So what you are really saying is that we are all f’d and should all just go back to life as normal now then? Sweet. I get my sports back.

You miss the point, this never should have shut down the world. If you are elderly or have a predisposition you should shelter in place, if you dont nothing should have changed. It was a complete fear driven overreaction

Could they and other teams be preparing for the season? If they don’t have to worry about getting COVID during the season then they can win in depth. It’s a bold strategy but imagine 1/2 the Team being out in August and can’t properly prepare for the season. I read LSU and Alabama has a lot of folks who have it also.

It would be one of the most Mississippi state things ever to be the surprise team of the season and have a shot at the playoffs only to be the one team to have to shut it down due to COVID.

That’s my concern. Not so much the players or a belief that a shut down needs to happen

It will be the ADs and university presidents that are responsible for the welfare of tens of thousands of folks when there’s so little actually within their control during game day.

Yea right, it's an overreaction that 2m+ have tested positive and almost 120K have died and in many states the numbers are going up as will the death rate. Here's a question. What happens if 1 college football player dies (god forbid) from the virus between now and during the season, just another overreaction?

Yes. Another overreaction. If one dies in a car crash, which is actually statistically more likely, the rest of them don’t lose their cars.

Sorry that's a poor comparison, but don't disagree to some exstent. This virus currently has more visibility on peoples lives or in this case, football players, then any person or player driving a car. The obvious reaction to a player getting sick and dying from the virus would unfortunately be on every front page and major network compared to a player dying in a car crash. So IMO that's not an overreaction it's sad daily occurrence.

If 1 player dies from Covid it will be very unfortunate but it is not a reason to shut down the country. This week a player for Shannon HS passed away at practice and it barely made news in North Mississippi. Look at the numbers in the big picture. Covid has killed around 120k in a country of 330M, if this means we shut down everything that is the same logic as shutting down everything because Alzheimers. Alzheimers killed about 120k in 2017. I use Alzheimers because it effects basically the same age group. There has to be a balance because shutting everything down eliminates incomes, drives up mental distress, and then suicide rates.

More and more people test positive and the death total barely moves. That means it is less and less deadly than everyone projected early on. Is it contagious, yes, is it deadly to those that are under 50 and have no predispostions, extremely rarely.

I’m dealing in reality. Not in what idiots read and believe. At some point, it’s time for people to start telling hard truths again and where people can stick asinine emotions. It’s the only way forward that doesn’t end in disaster.

It actually makes it a lot less likely that you see college sports this year.

Alzheimer's isn't contagious.

So you just sent close to half the population to shelter in place. You are aware of that right?

Well glad your are cause reality is, should a player unfortunately die from the virus reality will set in with football season possibly being cancelled. Reality is 120k citizens have died from this virus with more to come. You can believe that or not but that’s reality.

16% of the population is over 65, I'm not sure how many things you are calling a predisposition to get from 16% to almost 50%. Even if somehow you get there how about we let the other 50% go to work ...

And no Alzheimers is not contagious, as I said in the message, I used it because it is the same age demographic but it proves the point; no one gives a 17 about Alzheimer awareness but Covid, which is of similar deadliness and affects a similar population, has shutdown the economy. What we have experienced is not a proporationate response.

Better than the whole population. If you're so scared, stay at your house. Nobody is forcing you to leave your safe space. But I'll be dammed if I'm going to live my life in fear. News flash buddy, we're all going to die of something.

I love it how anyone who doesn't think like you guys is automatically scared. I guess that makes you tough guys feel good, lol. I'm out there exposed to it every working day. My occupational risk is extremely high. I'm still doing my job.

Then what is the problem? People can't and shouldn't stay locked in their house. Practice social distancing as best we can and let's move on. Don't tell me your not afraid but harp on everyone that goes about their lives, like we should. I mean, it's been 3 months of lockdown. What more do you want?

Making some really bad points in this thread.

Shutting down the country for alzheimers would do nothing since itnisnt contagious, which you acknowledge. So why make the point?

Oh, you explain why- because you think nobody cares about alzheimers awareness.

That too is a terrible point since the reason so many are aware of alzheimers is due to all the awareness efforts over the last few decades.
Alzheimers awareness has been an incredible success.

There is nothing we as a country can do to slow down alzheimers. We as a country can do some already implemented procedures and behaviors to slow down covid19.
