Lots of people doing the 20/20 hindsight now, although it's just one win albeit a extremely good one, when I don't remember too many going crazy over him then outside on one poster.

experience as a head coach is always a good thing....I think PIVOTAL for a school like Rutgers that has to fight tooth and nail. Learning on the job never works at this school...we saw it with Flood, we saw it with Hill...when you are in a top conference with sharks I think you need someone who has been there even at a lower level.

Probably not because we've Rutgered our way to being too obscure to even have such a word.

you just "Clemsoned" that post by referencing the wrong team in your example. Oklahoma lost to Iowa State. Not Oklahoma State

It's fine to have but I don't think it's pivotal or necessary and I've shown many examples of that here. Assuming the candidate has a qualified resume either as coordinator at P5 or HC at midmajor/P5, it's about the person/fit and that's an inexact science. Miss. State was a pretty moribund program in the SEC and Dan Mullen another Urban Meyer coordinator has done a solid job there and probably has done just about as good a job as one could expect at Miss. State.

I think Ash's biggest problem isn't his lack of experience but his to date handling of choosing an OC and type of offense. I wasn't excited but was open and still am about either choice of DM and Kill. Hopefully Kill and the offense comes along. We'll see.

Charlie Strong had experience and he encountered similar problems at Texas. If we had say gotten a Doug Meacham now at Kansas via TCU or Mark Helfrich ex Oregon HC or guys like that as our OC, I think we'd be better off now and the complaints about Ash wouldn't be that many.

I'm saying he was inexperienced and learned on the job when we hired him. So hiring someone like that most certainly has worked at RU.

Looks like he's a sophomore so I guess he may have been. And if he is, it's not an accident or luck that a solid qb is found by some of these coaches. They know what they're looking for and what fits for their systems.

Mike Leach has been churning out qbs for his system forever. I remember reading an article a couple years ago about Philip Montgomery (then Art Briles OC at Baylor) and the qualities they look for in a qb and they kept on chugging along at that position similar to Leach despite the changes in personnel. So you can say see how much a qb makes a difference but it's not luck that some of these coaches can repeatedly find solid qbs.

Yeah, those good offensive minds can truly see the potential in high school prospects. Kinda like Mehringer was able to pick up Oden and Allen for us. Oh wait...

If you look at our offense and look at Syracuse's offense, why would a WR ever want to go to Rutgers. Syracuse has the #1 receiver in the country in terms of yards.

So, why the hell can't we find a genuinely solid QB ...like, ever? I asked that question the other day, half joking, half hoping someone would have an answer.

Guess we've managed a really good QB every decade or so, but seems like we mostly whiff completely or get someone solid but with some major issues his entire career (Nova).

Syracuse D played a great game. The Clemson QB looked like a wounded duck, and they kept going after him. Kinda what I wish we did at Nebraska.

different times...that was a weaker Big East and he literally had no pressure to win, we had no donors, no priority points and very little season ticket holders....the stakes and pressure is hundredfold now

Why we couldn't beat OSU at home the way Cuse beat Clemson at home?

We now have to beat PSU to save the season. But we have no weapons.

I'm no expert but I'd say it's part system (pro style vs. spread) and turnover at the OC position as well. Besides how many strong OCs have we had over the years that were lighting it up elsewhere in their careers. You'll notice the names I mention are guys who have lit it up and know what they want and the kind of qb that fits their system.

Yeah, that's cool, but not what you said the first time.

I'm more in the camp that there's no sure thing, but wouldn't argue if we try the experienced HC route next go-round, and please someone who can move the ******* ball (the right way ...on purpose ..more than once a game).
