Tanner Allen was due to bat first in the bottom of the ninth inning. Allen is, by no small margin, our best hitter . . . and he's left-handed . . . and he hit a line-drive single in his previous at-bat.

From Eastern Michigan's perspective, they've GOT to get Allen out. If Allen gets on base with nobody out, then he will very likely score.

I definitely would have brought in my best left-handed pitcher to face Allen to start the inning. The starter had already gone eight innings and was likely running out of gas.

I would not have sent out the starter to pitch the ninth and given Allen a fourth at-bat against him.
