FR corner entering the portal
This kind of stuff is just hard to understand. Unless he doesn't see himself getting on the field , but there is certainly opportunity. Almost seems like guys like this don't want to compete, but they'll have the same thing elsewhere unless they move down. It would be hard to believe that he's getting any real money, and its pretty much a fact IF you start for Phil at DB you'll get a shot in the league. I can't remember the last starting DB that didn't get at minimum a FA shot in the league, and most get drafted.

It does make you wonder what is driving this young mans decision. Maybe he is put off by Iowa looking at experienced DBs to bring in from the transfer portal? To your point, Iowa is a desirable destination for a DB.

No sense speculating, really. There could be any number of reasons a kid decides to transfer.

Maybe he wants to live somewhere warmer. Maybe he has a crazy ex-girlfriend making life difficult. Maybe he wants to live somewhere with a Whataburger. Maybe he takes his education seriously and has his eye on a specific program elsewhere.

Have you seen all the OSU guys hitting the portal!?! It’s everywhere!

Kids these days have an attention span of a gnat….follow the bouncing ball or in their case the moving screen cursor!

I don't think their attention span is really in play here. There are multiple reasons and playing time is now extremely important. Back when everyone just got a scholarship, there was no financial loss for sitting on the bench. Now with NIL, you lose money. Makes perfect sense to leave and try to find a place where you can play, especially at a lower conference. If you get good enough there, then you might get high $ offers for a year to two. College football is about the money, it's about the money for the University, for the coaches, and now for the players.

It seemed like Wallace, Watson, and Godfrey were all ahead of him. This is life of a CFB fan these days

I don't know how much these yutes are making at their current schools but if I suspected not making an nfl team after graduation I might try to squeeze a few hundred thou more out of my college career if I could.

The new normal is some attrition is now a good thing. You dont want to be ISU and lose everybody but some turnover is now healthy.

I think people assume that transferring is always the players decision too much.

Yes. Imagine just being able to buy a condo coming out of college. Talk about a head start in life.
