Cinci player ejected...QUESTION

Auburn player ejected in SEC tourney had to sit against UK. Cinci player just ejected on flagrant 2, but Vern Lun just said their is no carry over to the next game, so he can play against UK should Cinci win.

Why? Whats the difference?

I didn't see what the Cinci player did but the Auburn player threw a punch and that one is basically automatic miss the next game.

Maybe league rules, but I think the Cincy player meant to arm bar the Purdue players chest but missed high. Tough break, flagrant 2 was the right call.

Pretty sure it's an NCAA rule just like high school even. You get ejected from a game you sit out the next one also.

As I recall, Auburn didn't know immediately if the player were going to have to sit the next game or not. So, I don't think it is for a F2 unless there is more.

I think there might have to be a punch involved. Hopefully, we will get a clarification tonight.

It will be interesting to see whether he sits out. I realize the announcers said he won't, but they may be wrong. I always thought the rule was flagrant 2 ejection in second half means missing the next game (first half you don't miss the next game). But it could be that the carry over only applies for "fighting" flagrants, which would not apply here.

I think he won't be suspended for the next game (assuming Cincy makes it past Purdue) because there was not a fight involved. The Granger kid and Montrezlllll got ejected/suspended one game each because they threw punches. I could be wrong though.

I remember 3 different instances of this for this season. Auburn kid, the Big East kid that punched the Nova PG on the ground, and Harrell from Louisville. All missed the following game after the incident. One is SEC, one is ACC, and one is, like I said, from the Big East. I'm thinking it's a CBB rule.

NCAA waived that rule for the Tourney. No worries for UK
either way.

Rule 10 section 5 of NCAA Men's Basketball Rule Book says suspended for next game if action causing F2 to be called is deemed to be a fight. So regular F2 no suspension, fighting yes.

Guess that will be determined after game.

Any self-respecting program would force him to sit out a game for a punk move like that, but we're talking UC here, where the whole team gets into brawls and punch police horses in drunken rages.

NCAA did not 'waive' anything....

I looked it up and trublucatfan is right. Basically if you are ejected for a F2 'FOUL' you are out for that game. While a F2 'FIGHT' has a carry over suspension for the next game as well. The Conference that the player plays in can step in and suspend the player for a carry over if they choose. But since we are in the post season, conferences cant step in. This was not deemed a 'FIGHT', so he is only out this game.

Example, Montrez Harrell against Western Kentucky earlier this year. He got up and threw a sissy punch that missed, but his follow through elbow hit the guy, and the Harrell knocked the ref down. He got ejected on a F2 'FOUL'.

Louisville decided that day NOT to carryover suspend Harrell for the Next Game, so the ACC stepped in and suspended Harrell for the next game since Louisville didn't have the nuts to punish him.
