This one is interesting. Super talented kid, but not a guy you can pencil in as a starter from Day 1. I wonder if we get him, if we are taking multiple QB? Of course Whipple was recruiting him at Pitt, so this might just be him going after a QB he likes.

It's the first step in improving the QB unit to fix the ****** job that weirdo nerd had done to the QB room.

Get this kid and then keep working to add an older player that can start in 2022. Then you have the older guy, Smoothers, and Chubba.

For sure. Although I don’t think you can count on keeping Smothers, Haarberg and Torres if you add multiple QB’s, which is OK as long as you are improving that room.

Torres will never see the field as QB at Nebraska. Frost knows that, IMO. Will overrecruit him or move him to a different position.

I love it! I think the dude could be ready enough by fall. If not, then surely Smothers or H win the job the old fashioned way

he has the height, but not the weight, maybe that can be added in 2 years.......I'm not sure about he's accuracy or decision making.

Exactly what different position are you moving a 6-6 QB who weighs 205 to? You might want to take a breath before you type any more wild proclamations.

Bulk him up for tight end!
Good heavens have you seen his pictures? He's a QB. Suggesting a kid with that arm and that build is anything other than a QB is just silly. We NEED him in the QB room. We're 2 scholarship QBs short as it is right now.

You might want to check the spelling of his name in the heading of the thread, lol.

Feel free to bookmark this thread and come back in 3 years. He will never see the field as QB. Will be out of the program or playing a different position by then.

If we can’t get a more proven player (still critical), at least with Purdy we’d have three guys with 1-2 years experience battling each other. Whoever wins out will have earned it.

Purdy’s played in games two years in a row. He was 100% comp with a 395 QBR in 2021.
*Ignore the 5 pass sample size, it’s still a winning formula.

We won’t know what kind of bar was set or the ceiling coming out of the 3 way competition, but it’s certainly better than bringing in no one.

Need to play 2 QBs so they can make it through the season with one healthy starter.

Kinda random, but I just remembered how Verduzco forbade the QBs from working with QB coaches in the off-season. What a ridiculous approach that probably stifled AM’s development, and thus sabotaged our entire program. Frost really should have intervened with that nonsense.

The point being, with proper off-season work, hopefully our QBs can maximize their time and blossom.

You're in danger of getting back to your "goofier than a pet coon" status. IF he never sees the field as a QB for the Huskers, he'll never see the field for the Huskers period. Considering the failure rates of college QB recruits that wouldn't be a wild speculation....but that's all it is on your part, a wild speculation.

Works for me....but I can't help but wonder if we are running out of options for that spot.
The portal isn't done I suspect with offering new options. There will be more after the bowl games probably and again in the spring. That said, I think we're at least being considered by a couple of pretty talented kids.

I think this notion that we’re getting 2 qbs (1 a Wiley vet and 2 a young gun understudy) is highly unlikely. Given the 1 year window, I think whoever they get will be starting

We're not really sure if it's a one year window. Some people that I think are pretty solid think it's a 2 year deal with the new staff. The reality is that Trev is doing everything he can to try to see that Frost succeeds and sticks around.

I'd bet money he's got 2 more years, like it or not

I would have rather brought Martinez back to see what Whipple could do with him...then to roll the dice with Purdy.

Doesn’t change the fact that nobody is transferring here to be the back up. If we get one portal guy, nobody else will consider us.

I don't think that's necessarily true but you're not going to get 2 one and done guys. You might get a kid who hasn't played yet to come in and be a back up given our QB room that we have now.

Based on your talent evaluation of Torres, or what independent source? You may be correct, but need to provide evidence to support your statement.

Purdy would not be favored in a quarterback competition with Smothers.

Wow, you're really going out on a limb there! Stating that a HS QB signee won't will not be playing at NU in three years. Based on the last 20 years, I would guess that is a 70% proposition for any NU QB recruit.

Purdy's best offer was easily Florida State. I think he committed at one point to Louisville. Those aren't bad offers, but the rest was Kansas, K State, Iowa State-- at least from the actual committable offers.

Purdy would not be favored in a quarterback competition with Smothers.

It would come down to throwing accuracy, brains, and fire (competitiveness, etc).

As of yet, Smothers does not project the competitive edge. However, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have it.

Utah brought in like three portal QB’s last year. Sure they had multiple guys leave this year, but still.
