If you listen to this entire interview of Webber on the Colin Cowherd show it kind of makes you sick just to listen to some of these fallacies and illogical arguments that are starting to bubble up from some of these guys like Webber who are almost completely discounting what Kentucky has done. Webber goes on to say that the Kentucky team with Jamal Mashburn was better than this team and mentions how this team doesn't even belong in the same breath with great teams from the 90's.

These guys like Webber that keep trying to cheapen what Kentucky has done because "juniors and seniors don't stick around" just make themselves look foolish. Yes, they're right that they don't stick around, but guess what? Kentucky is in the exact same boat as the rest of the country.

It seems like a guy that has been around basketball as much as he has would realize that it's like comparing apples to oranges to try and do what he's attempting in these comparisons. That fact of the matter is that it's basically impossible to go undefeated whether college basketball is full of juniors and seniors or whether they're full of talented freshman and sophomores. The argument that college basketball being full of the latter somehow cheapens what Kentucky has done is absolutely moronic and really disrespectful.

The lack of respect being shown to this team by some people astounds me.

Here is a link to the interview:

I think college basketball is absolutely the best it's ever been. People hate on it these days because the game is too fast (due to bigger, longer, and more athletic players) to allow for the kind of competition that they liked. A lot of teams that embodied that concept would get killed today. The difference in the game even from just 20 years ago (crazy that "20 years ago" now means 1995) is pretty notable.

Webber is an idiot, and a cheater. His opinion really means little as he won jack in college. Take a TO Chris, TAKE A TO!

Weber is certainly entitled to his opinion. I am entitled to have an opinion about his opinion. My opinion is he would be perceived as smarter if he kept that opinion to himself.

he won't be widely acknowledged when his opinions get into collegiate sports. he (a) took money and (b) let a whole generation of kids down when he called that timeout lol.

With all due respect to Chris, he's proven over many, many years that his athletic talent far exceeds what lies between his ears.

How is the 1993 team better than this year's team? That is a ridiculous statement. When you had guys like Travis Ford, Gimel Martinez, Jared Pricket, Dale Brown, and Rodney Dent as major contributors compared to this year's squad of role players...I am taking this team 99% of the time. This year's team would kill that team down low. 1993 had an amazing Mashburn and some very solid role players but not among our most elite.

I am very nostalgic and a huge fan of the 90s but I'd be curious which of these amazing teams this squad couldn't compete with?

1990- UNLV was bad and that would be a brutal game but fun to watch
1991/1992 Duke was legit
1993 UNC is one of the worst
1994 Arkansas with Beck, Williamson, and Thurman aren't better than this group
1995 UCLA was good but this team is better
1996 Kentucky is the GOAT, IMO
1997 Arizona is one of the worst to ever win it
1998 Kentucky would not have beat this team
1999 UConn -Nope

Now the 90s had some amazing upperclassmen like Duncan, Ray Allen, Allen Iverson (did two years), Shaq, Grant Hill, etc many superstars from the 90s who played two-four years. But not too many overall teams weren't just loaded.

Well, not very many have ever done it and let's see how long it takes for someone else to do it.

I guess webber was too busy criticizing UK to give his take on the fab 5 documentary and his side of what happened there. If Cowherd would of asked him about that, I'm not so sure webber would of been so open to talk.

A couple of rambling notes on what you said.

That UCLA team was good, but should not have won it all. I remember UK had them beat in a west coast OOC game and McCarty got called for a BS foul up 1 with 1 second left and they hit 2 FTs to beat UK. I think UK would have won the title if they had not choked against UNC in the Elite 8 that year.

The 91/92 Duke team, legit as it is, needed two miracles to win its titles. It does not take away from their greatness, and probably adds more to the "clutch" factor of their legacy, but they could have easily lost to UNLV in 91 and UK in 92 speaks for itself. That just should remind us all how even the best teams need luck and even MIRACLES to win sometimes. I'd prefer UK not put itself in that type of situation again like last year's team and the 92 Duke team.

So this team isn't great because there isn't as many juniors and seniors? Yet they made the title game twice during the junior/senior era as freshman and sophomores and the 3 good players left before their junior year...ironic.

It's just talk from an insecure guy that wants to think that he played in the peak of college basketball...just because that's when he played.

One thing is for sure though. If all today's players stayed for 4 years they would kick the butts of all those 90s team. AD would be a senior this year along with MKG. Might make us competitive (actually better than) with any team of any era including the Alcindor/Walton teams.

What are the usual big advantages of having an older team?

Typically, people say strength and execution/clutch/consistent performance.

Well, for the strength thing, young athletes are coming out of high school way way beefier than they were 20 years ago - how many players in the 90s were big enough to shove around Karl and the Twins and Dakari or a Junior version of Willie? Please.

And this is the most clutch/consistent team in 40 years, which is why there's still the donut in the L column.

That stuff just doesn't apply here.

Also, he was on one of the most overrated college teams of all time.

Their super recruiting class, previously hailed as the best by everyone, lost 9 games and reached the championship, just like our super class. Both underperformed.

Then, all their guys came back, and their "ultimate dominant team" lost 5 whole games that year and again fell short of the championship. Were they good? Of course - but a 5 win team is nowhere near as lofty as the hype surrounding that group - listen to some talk, it sounds like they were a GOAT candidate team, which is a joke.

This team would batter them and send them home to Michigan in tears.

At the end of the day, the only two teams that had comparable seasons to this one in that decade were '91 UNLV, who didn't end up winning it all (That '90 UNLV team was not as good) and '96 UK.

Coincidentally, they're also the only 2 in the modern era that were at least as impressive as this one.

'97 Kansas would've been, too, but they choked even earlier than UNLV. They were absolutely sick.

I'm sure Webber thinks the junior and senior laden teams, like Wisconsin and Virginia, are better than Kentucky this season.

I have no idea what he's talking about. We have 3 seniors!
Guys like Webber and Battier (who is picking WVU to beat us in the regional) are like the rest of us. They're homers for their school and a tinge (or a lot) of jealousy towards any school that would take away from what they perceive as the greatness of their accomplishments. It's human nature. But if they're being honest...they're wrong.

Seriously. Of all the players to criticize UK for being young, it's the guy that went to two title games with freshmen/sophomore teams, then left after his sophomore year. That's pot/kettle right there. GTFO Webber.

He is trying to cover because this team of young guys has done what he and the "Fab(ulously Overated) Five" could not.

They were good, but nowhere near as great as everyone wants to think. It was a changing culture that made everyone think they were so great more than what they did on the court.

I think many media pundits look at us and think that just because we don't have that one big name "superstar" that we are just a mediocre team. They tend to look at stats more than the actual product on the court.

I've heard it so many times about how "2012 Kentucky would beat this years squad because 2012 had Anthony Davis". It all comes down to the fact that we don't have that one guy who stands out. Instead, we have a team full of Kidd-Gilchrist's and people seem to frown upon that for some reason.

You CAN NOT compare teams from different eras. People are always trying to do this in all sports. How do you compare Tom Brady, who never gets touched and never throws down the field, to Johnny Unitas, who called his own plays, got slammed to the ground repeatedly (legal back then) and still had to perform? How do you compare Babe Ruth to Barry Bonds? This UK team needs to be compared with the teams it is competing against. Nobody else. If Webber thinks this team can't compare to senior and junior laden teams of his era, then consider that this UK team would have seniors Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist and Teague by those rules. There are a lot of people who think Webber's Michigan team would be destroyed by any of Wooden's best teams.

I think our 2015 beats every one of those teams except the 96 cats

Why?

Our bigs are so strong and deep that we would wear down all those teams. Add our experience at guard and I have all the confidence in the world

Not sure what Chris can say other than he could have said he hasn't watched this year's team that much.

He can only relate to teams he played against, so his arguments didn't bother me. He is all about the pros, so he's not exactly the person to ask.

But at this point, which team is better cannot be drawn out until its completion. This team is far from finished. We are now going to see what the Bahamas trip, the return of Hx2, a healthy WCS, and what our great freshman class can do for us.

We're ready, and I'm not sure the media is going to like it much.
