I'm friends and a co-worker with the driver of the snowplow and his family. Chuck is an amazing person, who is an unfortunate detail in this tragedy.

He has held this burden for 30+ years. Every day. A great father. A fantastic grandpa. A loving husband. An incredible man.

I will always think of him on this day, also.

Mike & Patty sued the city & him, IIRC (but lost the case)

Does he have a banner for his jersey like CC and Garza? Can't find a photo of it if he does. If he doesn't, he should.

There's a memorial outside of the mens locker room.

Which is unfortunate. I understand their grief and heartbreak but by all the facts Chris was at fault.

It did end up bringing legislation that requires snow plows to have lights mounted so that the blade doesn't block the headlights. making it safer for all of us.

#40 is retired in his honor

Good point. It's easy to forget about those on the other side of a tragedy like this. The guilt must be awful.

Chris' girlfriend struggled too. I remember in an anniversary of Chris' death interview her saying that she always felt like people were staring at her because she was Chris Street's former girlfriend.
Yes, all involved will carry this with them all their lives. If it were me, I have to admit I'd probably almost rather relocate to someplace where no one knew me, for that reason. Just a fresh start, but that's just me.

I don't think you would have to go very far. On the OT board some Seminole fans were questioning the importance of this post and one was even mocking it, it seemed like... I know its been awhile but I guess the reverence of Chris life wasn't felt outside the state as it was inside, the country and world would be a much better place if people emulated the way Chris lived.

Seminole fans know nothing about Chris Street? No way! That’s almost as crazy as Hawk fans knowing nothing about Jonathan Isaac.

That's fair and as I said it was a long time ago... IIRC it was the top story on Sportscenter that night and the next couple days, Chris Street was also going to be a first round draft pick in many people's eyes, so it's not like he was a walk on bench warmer.

Most definitely. But Seminole fans also don’t know shlt about their own basketball team, try asking any of them on the OT board.

Jess Settles said in one of the documentaries that he went to Chris’ funeral while he was still in high school after committing to Iowa. As a freshman, he felt a lot of guilt about the minutes he was getting, especially after winning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, because he knew if Chris were still alive those would’ve been mostly his minutes. IIRC he talked about it with one of the assistants (maybe Close?), and later that summer he got to know Chris’ parents, which helped him work through some of that.

Also, Kenyon Murry named one of his sons after Chris Street only spelled Kris. The other he named Keegan, after the town drunk of Frytown...

Has anyone ever tried having a custom jersey made with Chris' number and name on the back through the Black and Gold shop or the Fan Shop? Wouldn't mind having a gold script Iowa jersey repping Chris when I wear it.
