Definitely been some rewriting of history with him. But to his credit, he hasn't really gotten into any trouble in Oxford that I know of, which surprises the hell out of me.

Such as? I don’t know, but maybe you do?

Pretty sure Mullen dropped him when he got the Florida job, because he didn’t feel like he was a schematic fit, but could be wrong? But, by all means, enlighten me on the terrible things he did as a senior in high school that you can’t get over.

Real question, not trying to stir the pot - what was not covered that you feel like was “polished”, left out, or rewritten?

Mostly the way it presented that everything bad that has ever happened to Corral was not his fault.

You’ve always been very fair to me on here, which I appreciate. So, I’ll ask you the question, because I’ve truly never figured it out. What are all the things that he’s done that people allude to on here? There’s a bunch of innuendo, and apparently some people know what went down in California, but I don’t?

I’ll be honest, it kinda seems like a bunch of people decided they didn’t like him because of these things:
a) he was an elite high school recruit in California who signed with Ole Miss
b) he got into a pushing match in a heated Egg Bowl defending his teammates, which we can all agree we’d love to see out of our QB, right?
c) he doesn’t “look” like a lot of people’s mental picture of a star QB and team leader

There’s a ton of subtle context around thug behavior, him being a bad human, etc. but no one ever actually articulates what leads to that belief?

If the answer is “I don’t like the SOB because he plays at Ole Miss” then heck I respect it. But this weird moral high ground of pretending that the dislike is because he’s a bad guy, just seems odd. To be clear, this isn’t really directed at you, you’re just one of the few I feel will give me your honest answer or opinion.

I like to think trying to fight Jonathan Abram and getting his helmet ripped off by Jamal Peters was a wake up call***

Ok, that’s fair. I’ll concede that. In that regard it’s probably a “puff piece”. But, I would imagine a good portion of it is true. Especially when considering that there’s multiple quotes from his coach at the high school he actually left, right? That guy would have zero reason to lie. In fact, I’d say his best route would have probably been to not comment. But he chose to defend Corral.

I think he still sends Braxton Hoyette Christmas cards for saving his life that night.

Come on. He had multiple issues in high school, ultimately getting kicked out of school (not easy for the star QB to do) and a lot of schools cooled off on him after that. I had actually forgotten about his Egg Bowl behavior, but to be fair there's a long history of uncalled for **** from both teams in that game.

I'd forgotten about that. Yeah, fighting either one of those two could have gone a lot worse for him than it did.

Ok, so to be clear, the behavior we are holding against him is from when he was 16-18 years old? That’s what defines him?

Can one of you Ole Miss fans walk me through how a 5 star QB from California ends up signing with a Matt Luke coached team on probation that had just finished with a 1-7 SEC record?

Seems like an odd choice for such an apparent choir boy.

It's crazy the lengths some will go to to portray someone as a bad kid because he has the audacity to play for a team you dislike. He got in a fight when he was 17 with Wayne Gretzky's kid. (GASP!!!) He wasn't kicked out of school but transferred. The stories aren't hard to find. Even if he was kicked out of school, so what? Who among us didn't get in a fight in high school? Has there been a single instance of him getting in trouble over the past 4 years? Just say you hate him because he's the OM quarterback. You don't have to pretend he's some closet ax murderer just because you don't like him. I mean, I know y'all would never support anyone who got in a fight in high school, such as with a defenseless female.

Why did he “transfer” from Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village to Long Beach Polytechnic? Hint google altercation with Tristan Gretzky (yeah the youngest son of The Great One)

Not at all. By all accounts Corral has gotten his act together but that does not make it necessary to reimagine everything that came before. Jeffrey Simmons certainly did not receive the same forgiving attitude from Ole Miss fans as you apparently have.

This is kind of a puff piece attempting to make him look good. And he has not had any miscues in the last couple years. I will admit I hated him because he signed with OM but also did not like his temper tantrum antics on the sideline after the drives ended. Looked childish to me and he has gotten his temper under control. That drive I guess he why he is good. If he was in maroon and white I was attribute that to a desire to win every play. I will be glad he is gone tho

Don't be ridiculous. It's not like that was his only issue in high school. But, as I said earlier, to his credit he really hasn't gotten into any trouble in Oxford, so maybe he has turned things around (for the record, I think your coach has turned some things around too). So good for them. I still don't like him much, but I really don't give a **** one way or the other about him.

On a State message board, yes. Yes, it does.
Don’t be so shocked and chagrinned.

They have to come defend their girlfriend's honor. It's cool.

I'm trying to think about what would compel me to go to Nafoom or the Spirit and defend one of our players. I'm not sure I care enough what Ole Miss fans think of any of our players to do that though.

I think the fact that he had basically zero P5 outside of Ole Miss with his talent tells you it wasn't just innuendo. Good QBs have a lot of leeway, and he apparently exhausted almost all of it.

That said, other than looking like an *** in the egg bowl, I haven't seen or heard anything bad about his behavior in Oxford, so he has at least cleaned his act up enough that if he has had any hiccups, it's not the type of stuff that isn't routinely kept quiet for P5 starters.

It's a puff piece because it literally takes every bad attribute about him, and just reframes it as a positive. It's like the interview question where you are asked what is your biggest weakness, and you answer that you just like to work too much.

1. Stubborn/uncoachable is reframed as "can't be corralled" "he's his own thinker" "he has his own drive" "you have to let the artist paint" "he's unique, ...not going to conform." - Give me a break. Try any of that **** with Saban. I don't know of any serious coach who wants a player who is his own thinker and does what he wants. But at the DJ, this is awesome stuff for a qb.

2. As was said earlier, nothing he did was his fault, and poor him has had to overcome "perception problems."

3. It's the government's fault (city hall). Poor Matt, everyone is just against him.

4. It's not just the MSU fight. Last year, at least, he was the most chippy on the team. Always taking a little pot shot after any play he got tackled on, and trying to start stuff. That's where the "punk" moniker came from.

All that said, he has definitely calmed down this year from what I've seen, and to get serious looks at QB at the next level, he needs to at least appear level headed and let the linemen do the chippy stuff. Also, he is definitely talented.

My comment is really just about why the article is a puff piece, not whether he's changed, or if he's good. It would have been much better for his image if the article wasn't filled with excuses for his past, and just said he's moved past it. They actually did him a disservice by including all the quotes from those who can't help but want to make excuses for him and blame everyone else, instead of just saying he's grown up (coach, momma, etc.).
