Maine beats BC 69-64 led wire to wire. Northwestern State beat TCU 64-63; Coppin State beat Navy 72-65 led wire to wire ; Florida Atlantic beats Florida 74-72; Stetson beat South Florida 68-67; Troy beats Florida State 79-72. Plus Villanova was struggling all game with Delaware State before winning 60-50.

We play Temple who beat Villanova for the 1st time in a decade : Rider who lost to Big East regular season champ Providence on opening night by 1 ; Coppin State who just beat Navy tonight by 7 and was beating Georgetown all game until losing in OT . These MEAC and SWAC teams have been scheduling harder out of conference to prepare them for their season. The SWAC supposedly had 4 upsets last week and they ran an article on their strategy which they are pitching to recruits to come here we play top Power Conference teams and they are getting better recruits.

We had some cupcakes in Columbia and Sacred Heart and likely Central Connecticut State , but Rider , UMASS Lowell , Bucknell and Coppin State look to be better out of conference opponents than we thought preseason and should help us at year end. Plus Temple , Miami , Seton Hall and Wake Forest adds to a stronger SOS. The bitching in the off-season doesn’t look like it will pan out.

It does seem like a lot of big upsets already this season. Wonder how much transfer portal is impacting team chemistry with all the new faces everywhere.

Transfer portal is also helping these lower teams be more competitive.

Just looking at the upsets listed above:

Coppin State is being led by transfer Sam Sessoms from PSU (23.0 ppg)
Stetson is being led by transfer from Ball State (23.5 ppg)
Maine's two leading scorers are new from the portal this year.
4 of Northwestern State's top 5 scorers are new from the portal this year.
2 of Troy's top 3 scorers are new from the portal this year

I'm not complaining but rough start to the year for Louisville(0-3), 3 losses at home by 1 pt, Bellarmine 66-67, Wright St 72-73, and App St 60-61.

P12 about to go 0-3 at SWAC teams, Prairie View up 15 on Washington St, 54-39, 12 minutes left.

That Wright St loss was a desperation shot at the buzzer that went in too. Brutal start for Louisville

The Washington State coach playing 1-3-1 zone down by about 15 with about four minutes left? Is Ruben sure he wants to play for him?

Edit: I just saw no fight in the WSU team — they cut the deficit, but only because Prairieview could not throw it in the ocean.

Temple will kick our *** if we don't come to play. They have talent and a chip on their shoulder.

They also lost to Wagner and they're also in a dogfight with a team that lost to Southern Miss.
Yep and we lost to Lafeyette, but beat 4 ranked teams in a row later in the year. Point is they beat Nova, have talent and will beat us if we don't play well.

The Stetson player is guard Luke Brown, who is the 4th leading scorer in Indiana Boy’s High School basketball history. His story is a little “Hoosiers”-like in the sense that he and a coach in his 80s (his grandfather, I believe) moved into a small town and took the school from nothing to “hot ticket” in one year:

Temple is a total wildcard to me. Anything could happen on Friday.
Temple looks like a one man team on offense based on their box scores. Slow down Dunn, and not sure what else they have. Or.... shut down the rest, and make him try to win it all by himself. Either way, I like our chances.

Same. I watched a lot of the game and came away with same conclusion. Need to outwork them, we have more talent

What makes you think we will not come to play. 6 days off from last game. Expect full effort from our team. Where you get “ they will kick our ***” from is really out of the blue for a Rutgers fan. Odd and weird.

Has nothing to do with the team. I've just seen more than a few folks talking about Temple not being that good despite their win over Nova. I have no reason to believe we won't play hard/well against Temple, but if we don't, we'll be in trouble. Also not sure Paul or Caleb are playing, which will make winning tougher.

Caleb is unlikely playing and Paul will not be at full strength if he plays but I expect everybody else “ to play their *** off”. I have not heard anyone say Temple is nothing and if they did it was an ignorant comment as most basketball people know they have 2 really really good players. It is our first game away from the RAC for our freshman and Cam. Much more curious how they respond.

SWAC at it again. Prairie View A&M beats Washington State by 17 and Alcorn State underdogs by 10 in the desert beats a decent Stephen F. Austin team by 9. Their strategy mentioned much earlier in this thread seems to be playing off.

Michigan state who we beat last year by 30, and have multiple 30 pt wins against the last few years, just beat #4 Kentucky in 2OT after almost beating #1 Gonzaga last week

Going to be a huge win for MSU against Kentucky, up 6 with 18 seconds left and the ball
Michigan State showed in the quality win over Kentucky and near upset of Gonzaga that they are the best team in the Big Ten based on games played so far.
