Point Park at the top of Lookout. It's not a huge park that takes hours to go through. It's small enough to just walk around and see everything for under an hour, but it's got some great views and a lot of historical markers and monuments to read up on while there.

there is a bar on the top of lookout mountain that sells their own brew. from what i remember, it was pretty good. also, if they have live music up there, its to great place to chill with or without kids...just make sure timmy doesnt try to push his brother or sister over the side...

Point Park was worth the $24 for parking and entrance and the 1 hr out of the way total.

Thanks.

I like to grab something to go in Ft Payne then ride up to the Little River Canyon visitor center. If you haven't seen the canyon it's only 10 minutes off the interstate and worth the detour.

I love Chattanooga. Tony's is a fantastic and pretty inexpensive, kid-friendly Italian place overlooking the river. Clumpies is excellent ice cream. Get the kid with Pop Rocks on it. There's also an early 20th century carousel that's great for younger kids.

Glad you dug Point Park. Here are other options for great views close to downtown Chattanooga that are free:

Sunset Rock - On the western brow of Lookout Mountain

Parking's easy and there's a nice hike available if you have time. (Neither of those are my pics, by the way.)

Signal Point - Signal Mountain, just north of downtown Chattanooga

(Not my pic either.) Signal Point is part of the National Parks Service's National Military Park in and around Chattanooga due to its Civil War significance.

If you're willing to walk .4 miles from there on a trail, you can get to this amazing view:

There's a solid Italian restaurant on Signal Mountain on the way to Signal Point, too. It's good enough on its own to warrant a trip up the mountain. The views are just icing on the cake.

(Also keep in mind that the drives up both Signal and Lookout Mountain are pretty scenic in places as well.)

Missionary Ridge - eastern side of downtown

(Not mine.)

This one is also steeped in Civil War history. There are several areas on the ridge where you can stop, read the Civil War plaques, and walk around. But this one is just as nicely enjoyed on a slow, north-south drive on a street that straddles the top of the ridge.

If you really want a restaurant with a great view, halfway up Missionary Ridge there's a BBQ place called Sugar's Ribs that got a solid view from the deck:

(Not mine.)
