Dingle are you related to the McGowens? Or are you a sleeper agent for Rivals here to stir engagement on the forums? My goodness you are going to die on this hill aren't you? I think it has become quite clear now that the season is over that Verge was far and away the best player on this team with Derrick Walker most likely second. Everything should have been running through those two off the pick-and-roll all season long. That's moot now.
Here's the issue with the McGowens. Trey is not limited by his size at all. Let's assume he's at least 6'1" 195. That's not a problem to make the NBA if you have skills. Now if he was 6'6" or in that area, I think you might have a case for him having a shot as solely a lockdown specialty defender. Trey's problem is between his ears. How many times have we seen -- not even this season -- but just last night where Trey got a head of steam and everyone watching knew what was going to happen? I don't care how athletic and strong you are, that is easy to stop. And to top it off, he's not a shooter. Look at his career #s. He shot below 40% half the seasons he played and was right there this year.
Trey reminds me a little of Mac Mcclung from the past couple years. He is an explosive athlete that probably should have pursued football. I do credit the coaches for getting him to play more defense this season. You heard announcers talk about it last year and he finally bought into it and became that guy(guessing it was because his brother is here now). I do appreciate how hard he played for us.
Bryce's problem is he thinks he's already that NBA player people have him pegged as. He appears to still be growing into his body. He is way too easy to bully on the defensive side. He's a turnstile on that end and for some reason he played the most minutes for us this year. Big mistake by Fred kowtowing to an 18 year old. On top of that he shot 40% FG and 27% from 3 for the year. Not good numbers and he put them up with volume and in quite ridiculous fashion at times. The biggest issue I have with Bryce is how lackadaisical he seems at times. How many times did we see him hit the floor on offense and sit there to complain instead of getting up and getting back on defense? There was never any urgency there all year long.
Neither guy has a "bag" on the offensive side. Both pretty much did the bulk of their scoring going to the rim. I believe both guys have a shot at a future YouTube basketball career as that seems to be a thing now and their games seem to be more influenced by that style than winning basketball.
