couldn't disagree more. brett kane sucked balls and was continuously talking about anything but huskers/sports.

That's probably why he went to a much bigger market to make much bigger money, because he sucked balls. He talked plenty of huskers, but gawd forbid we don't hear a fiftieth retread of a story from two days ago about Frost's comments to the Alliance Chamber of Commerce crowd.

I originally wasn't a fan of Gametime with Nick Bahe but its grown on me. I have listened to Nick on national radio recently and he's done well. With 1620 leading to major gigs for recent hosts, I wouldn't be surprised if Nick has a new job lined up.

If you like the Le Batard show, you probably liked Brett Kane's show. If you don't like Le Batard, you wouldn't like Brett Kane's show as it was heavily influenced by Le Batard.

My thoughts on a few sports dj's. Gary Sharp is my favorite. He has a delivery I like, and is intelligent without being over bearing. Benning talks about Omaha North kids too much and gets old really fast. Perrault I liked but got tired of him comparing every yeam to New England. Bahe may be the most knowledgable. But I grew tired of him laughing at himself. It would be really tough to do 4 hours alone though.

Yeah...The Omaha North stuff gets pretty old pretty fast.

Hmm... interesting that the Bahe leaving announcement is front page of the OWH Sports section, above the fold. I saw the announcement yesterday, but this must be bigger news to the Omaha sports community than I thought. Not to degrade Nick, but as a solo broadcaster, he wasn't a favorite.

That said, I can only imagine what it must be like to try and fill 3 or 4 hours every weekday. Remember when the English teacher in 8th or 9th grade said you'd have to give 2 minute speech at the end of the school year and you thought no way you could talk for 2 minutes? Imagine 3 hours? TOUGH

Still not a fan

Nick will do well with analysis on hoops, he really knows basketball and it lets his passion show.

Mr. Serious Controversial Sports Take was never his personality but he did it because that's what they asked of him, kudos to him for carrying it as far as he did all these years.

I don't get the impression that 1620 is very well-run at the top.

Dave Tepper was the PD there for about 3 years. He left about a year ago for Denver as the PD for 950 AM. I got to know Dave when he was running 97.5 ESPN for Gow media down here in Houston. Nice enough guy, but not real disciplined.

I don’t know how 1620 is run from a financial standpoint.

Yeah, long as the checks don't bounce I guess. Without the benefit of being able to see the ratings numbers, it seemed like a head scratcher when they broke up Schick & Nick. They killed that show and next thing you know Schick springboards out to ESPNU. It certainly seemed like a show with a very loyal following but maybe the numbers didn't bear that out.

Who knows, stations do this stuff. They're constantly shuffling up the host pairings on the Chicago stations, too. It usually makes for pretty bad radio at first until they get used to each other, and some never do.

Did Schick leave to go to ESPNU, or did he leave then land the ESPNU gig.
He was laid off, and then got the ESPNU gig. I was reading old articles, and apparently, Schick was going to replace Kevin Kugler on Unsportsmanlike Conduct (it was actually announced), and then he got the job with ESPN. Schick said the show that replaced Schick and Nick lasted like 8 weeks, does anyone know what show he was referring to? Was it Jason Peter's short-lived gig, or was it something else?

Schick wasn't laid off. They moved Schick to Unsportmanlike Conduct to replace Kugler. He then got the ESPNU job. He was talking about Sharp and Peter's show. Benning replaced Peters after 8 weeks or so.

My bad, I definitely misspoke, I meant the decision for the show to end was not his, the station manager chose to do that. I never heard Jason Peter as the host, but that must have been something else! I can picture Gary cowering in fear when Jason would get worked up about anything...
